This is hard to admit. But I need some help here. I bathed Samantha today knowing that she a had "a few" little mattes behind her ears. Well, what started out as q-tips sized mattes ended up as HUGE ones. She hates being brushed especially around her head and under arms. I ended up cutting all of it out (she actually sat still for this, I guess she thought it was better than the dematting comb). Any suggestions? Thanks! |

I brush Roger every day, most of the the time. I skip a couple of days every now and then. When I go a week without brushing, the mats start coming back especially around the ears and where the collar is. I started using Chris Christensen Ice on Ice (a detangler) it works miracles, the brushing is now a breeze. |
Rogers Dad-
Is that Ice on Ice a human or pet product? - in other words- where can I get me some?! Thanks. Up. |
Go to http://www.chrissystems.com/ Get the concentrate, they may give you a spray also. If they don't just use an old hair spray bottle you need for it to come out very fine. |
I'm waiting for my order. I got the ice on ice stuff and the brush. I think it is time for professional help though. I worked on her for almost an hour today (with chewy treats). The mattes are like tribbles... |
When you get your Ice on Ice drence the mat wait a minute then work it out. It will be much easier. Let us know what you think of the stuff also. |
Rogers' Dad,
I noticed in another post that you said you also bought the White on White-- how did that work out for you? You've sold me on the Ice on Ice so I wanted a testimonial on the other one too! |
I had to laugh when I read your post Sandy Sheepie, I haven't heard about tribbles in YEARS!!!!! |
The White on White worked pretty well, no miracle but cheaper by the gallon than the pet store stuff where you buy small quantities. The every day shampoo is no better than a good human shampoo. The Thick & Thicker protien stuff works pretty good but you can't leave it as the final stage you have to wash it out with the After Bath or the hair gets matted. So here is what I am doing I mix the White on White, Dawn Dish soap, and the everyday shampoo all together and shampoo roger with that, then I use the Ice on Ice. About every 3rd or 4th shampoo I will use the protien stuff. But here is the trick no matter what you use put the shampoo in a garden sprayer on the max setting and spray the shampoo on the dog that way. Talk about saving time and your back I can't tell how much faster it seems. I also mix the ice on ice in the garden sprayer I put a very small amount of concentrate in and mix water with it then just spray him down after the shampoo. it really helps distribute the stuff from the tip to the base of the hair. None of the stuff is cheap so brace yourself. I want to try the Cowboy magic I keep hearing about next. Have Fun |
When you say Gardensprayer- can you tell me what you mean (is it obvious I don't have my own house yet, or what!) Do you mean that miracle grow fertilizer sprayer you attach to the hose? Or is it like a sprinkle head? I'm confused, but it sounds like such a good idea, that I want to get one (If i can figure out what it is!)

Hi Karen,
Garden type sprayers are used for bathing horses as well. See this site for a picture of the sprayer! The garden sprayer has an adjustment for fine mist and different settings to a full stream of water. www.ezall.com |
Here is the one I have... Hudson Model 2102 http://www.hdhudson.com/catalog.html#Ho ... %20Sprayer I think I got it at Home depot maybe Lowes. |
trouble with tribbles..... lol.....
As to the shampoos and stuff, I just use whatever I have on hand mostly, but I really love cowboy magic. They have a clarifying detangler too, you put it in after shampooing and rinsing, like a conditioner, but it is also supposed to help remove more dirt and staining. I'm not sure how well it works compared to other suggestions, but the detangling aspect of it is amazing. |
