Date: April 23, 2005 (Saturday) Driving and Drafting Workshop, sponsored by the New England Driving and Drafting Club Location: Salmon River State Forest, Colchester CT The event is open to all breeds and mixed breeds. Limited to the first 20 dog & and handler teams registered, both driving and drafting methods will be featured. (spaces still available!) Beginner teams will learn how to train your dog for drafting using traditional and new methods. Learn about different draft apparatus. Learn how easy it is to make an inexpensive travois to start your draft training. Learn about different harness styles and uses. Learn how to properly fit your dog with a harness and accustom your dog to dragging items. Learn to back your dog. Bring your harness and draft cart if you have one. Some carts and harnesses will be available. Intermediate level teams will be introduced to maneuvering course obstacles. Driving teams will learn the fundamentals of driving. Learn reining communication. Learn when breaking can be beneficial to your dog. Learn about the state-of-the-art "City Mini". Learn how to properly fit the special dorsal harness required. Learn how to improve your dog's confidence to be a successful driving dog. Workshop speaker and Sulky Driving speaker: Cindy Scarpa, NEDDC President Workshop begins at 10 AM (goes till about mid-afternoon) Cost $25 for NEDDC members, $30 for non-members. (includes lunch!)
