For the last 3 days, Zoey (5 months old) runs behind us until the leash is tight, does a 180, drops to her belly and backs out of her harness. No matter how much we adjust the thing, she backs out in seconds. This is her newest, most fun trick - she does it as often as she can. We're counting the days (15) until the fence is installed....but in the meantime... Anyone know of an "escape-proof" harness? We've been using a seatbelt harness that fastens on her back - about 5 inches down from her ears. We're afraid of martingales, and she won't go down steps in a "gentle leader" with the tether in the front. Before we buy YET ANOTHER harness, we want to consult our "real world experts" - that's you guys! Thanks! |

We have used a seatbelt harness for rides, with good success.
It must be that seatbelt harnesses are on strike this week. On a 30 minute drive, Bogart was doing fine and having a good time--secure in the harness. We came upon road construction near home and had to stop. He bounced around barking, and when we got home had slid out of the harness. This is the first time we have had this problem. We have adjusted the harness and it appears more secure. |
Rosco was so good at slipping his leash I would use 2 at a time. The only one he didn't slip was a show lead. I don't remember the name but it has a cotton lead and a chain on the part that goes around the front of the neck. There are 2 rings that hold the cotton part on the top of his neck, it tightens when you pull the lead up. It never seemed to hurt him and I felt safer that he couldn't run off. Now that he's 6 we can use a regular leash, he doesn't shake it off anymore. |
