Crating the dog in a different room?

I was just wondering what you guys thought of this. Is it cruel to crate a dog in a room that doesn't have heavy traffic? I have her crate in my room right now... but that leaves the cats without a place to go at night.

She only goes in the crate when she is napping or I am gone - and that means that if I am in here - I cannot get up or she wakes up and fusses... I cannot make any loud noises etc. It's getting really frustraiting because I cannot make noise in my own room (sometimes even typing wakes her up).

Is it cruel then to crate her in a more quieter place outside my room? If she is sleeping or I'm not going to be at home it's not like she will be missing anything - or will she?

We crated our dogs in the foyer, but left the tv on for them if we were going out. Leaving a radio on will help also. If you use the radio choose a station that plays soothing music, anything with lots of bass or screaming will just upset her. :( If you give her some toys she will be fine, as a puppy she'll probably sleep.
Our girls are only crated at night or when we aren't home now, so it doesn't matter much where their crates are. I keep them in the kitchen though, it is close to my room (just off the kitchen at the back of the house) so that I can hear them if they need to go out. They don;t usually need out at night anymore, but you never know.
For a puppy, I think it would be better to crate where the activity is (if you are using it for house training) so that she is accustomed to all the noise and hustle and bustle of everyday life. However, if in your room is what she is used to, then that is probably what she is most comfortable with.
