Letting her off the lead - lead her to go and see the kitties - and then they smacked her... and now she sits at a safe distance and barks... and barks... and barks... until I get a headache. I've tried introducing them while she was worn out, after I've calmed her and after I've made her feel happy (praising her etc). I don't know what to do. I feel like it's becoming a very unpleasant experience on both sides. The cats for getting barked at and the dog for getting corrected every time she barks. |

Integra- the only thing I can think of is distracting her with structured training when she begins to bark. I don't now if this will work or not- but it's worth a try! You can also try teaching her to bark on command- sometimes this helps to teach them when it is ok to bark, and when it is not...
Let us know how it goes! Karen |
Jasper has been with us since January 29th, and he still barks at Allie all the time! If you find out how to stop it, I'd love to know. |
Dancer barked at the cats as a puppy, but both myself and the cats just ignored it and it seemed to stop. She still does occasionally if she is in her crate and the cat is teasing her on purpose...lol..... but not often, and not for long. |
Thank goodness! I talked to my breeder and she reaaaally helped out.
I would praise her when she was around the cats and wasn't barking. If she started to get worked up and wouldn't stop barking and jumping at them - play time was over and she would go in her crate to calm down a bit. It's really helped! She still barks a bit - but none of that nutso barking she did before. |
YEAH! I knew she was a fast learner! I'm glad you found something that works (BTW, I'm packing that tip off in the back of my mind, for future use!)
