Question for those with dogs with bad hips...

For those of you who have dogs that have diagnosed hip dysplasia, or maybe even diagnosed 'bad hips'...have you noticed a sudden increase in clicking noises? And, if you did, did it mean anything?

I noticed this starting a couple of days ago, but I thought it was static since our house is SO static-y these days and Barney just runs his head along the couch, so when he was passing by me doing this I assumed his head was just making static.

Then a day later I noticed some clicking.

Today it was unmistakeable that it's his hips that are clicking, and it's loud, like I heard it from the top of the stairs while he was already at the bottom.

It doesn't seem to bother him, still super bouncy and acts like he has been lately...

Yes, I have read on this forum that clicking was a very bad sign.

Gimme a minute to remember his username...

Not having a good day

He hasn't been around in a bit, maybe if you drop him a pm you can ask him questions?
Ron's correct, definately not a good sign. Clicking hips was one of our first signs of Oliver's hip dysplasia. I remember placing my hands on his hips and actually being able to feel the ball popping in and out of his socket.

If he isn't already, I'd start him on a high dose of Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and MSM supplement.
Barney was diagnosed at 7 months with HD when we had him neutered, so we've just been sort of wait-and-seeing if and when something would happen with his hips.

He's already on glucosamine and prednisone daily.

I guess I was just wondering if those whose dogs had been previously diagnosed and relatively fine all of a sudden had lots of hip clicking and if it meant things were starting to get worse from that point on, or maybe it's just a random episode and will go away after a few days...
^^^Oh, sorry, I didn't remember that Barney was already diagnosed with HD  . I haven't heard the popping hips since Oliver as a puppy, so I'm no help here.
When Frankie was a puppy his joints cracked all of the time. Thats when I started questioning also. Everytime he gets up his bones crack. One of the many specialist we have seen says when they no longer want to go for walks or do the things they love. Thats when it's time to make a surgery decision. Frankie is on Gluchosamine, msm, Chondroitin and omega's. Also on a herbal pain reliever and physical therapy 2 x a week.

when he shakes his bum now it sounds like there's a rattle in there. It's kind of unreal how it sounds. But he seems perfectly happy and bouncy still. so weird.
