Funny (If You Grew Up In Rural Wisconsin)

If You Grew Up In Rural Wisconsin

You know how to polka, but never tried it sober.

You know what knee-high by the Fourth of July means.

You know it is traditional for the bride and groom to go bar hopping between the

reception and wedding dance.

You know the difference between "Green" and "Red" farm machinery, and would fight with your friends on the playground over which was better!

You buy Christmas presents at Fleet Farm.

You spent more on beer & liquor than you did on food at your wedding.

You hear someone use the word "oof-dah" and you don't break into uncontrollable

laughter.

You or someone you know was a "Dairy Princess" at the county fair.

You know that "combine" is a noun.

You let your older siblings talk you into putting your tongue on a steel post in the

middle of winter.

You think Lutheran and Catholic are THE major religions.

You know that "creek" rhymes with "pick".

Football schedules, hunting season and harvest are all taken into consideration before wedding dates are set.

A Friday night date is getting a six-pack and taking your girlfriend shining for deer.

Saturday you go to your local bowling alley.

There was at least one, if not several, in your class who had to help milk cows in the morning.

You have driven your car on the lake.

You can make sense of "upnort" and "baatree".

Every wedding dance you have ever been to has the hokey pokey and the chicken

dance.

Your definition of a small town is one that only has one bar.

The local gas station sells live bait.

At least twice a year some part of your home doubles as a meat processing plant.

You think that the start of deer season is a national holiday.

You actually understand these jokes and will forward them to all your Wisconsin friends!!!!!

This is great! Does rural northern Illinois count?

As someone who grew up in a small town just south of the Wisconsin border, all of this sounds very familiar...... :D

Laurie and Oscar
Unfortunately it is all true.
Did anyone catch the new ABC sitcom Mr. Sunshine last night (9:30 PM EST)?
One of the main characters said "oof-dah".
I busted out laughing because it was just on the forum earlier that day.

So I wonder if the actor is from the upper midwest or her character is supposed to be from the upper midwest.
Or maybe one of the writers are.
As an Ohioan, I understood almost all of this & could relate to it too!
Another great saying up here is (not sure of spelling) yus guys, also I have to get my hair cut "they're getting so long".
I'm having a brain block, what is "baatree".......otherwise, all this is very familiar. Each region has it's own special rules...hmm, many are similar
Battery?

Hey I know Deere is green; what's red?
International Harvester?
I can think of several reds:
McCormic, Massey Ferguson, Allis Chalmers. Seems to me International Harvester disappeared in mid 80s to reemerge with Case to be Case IH. Yeah, I think their color is red as well.

Other colors: Yellow Caterpillar!! orange Kubota?, green yeah Deere, but what was Ford? All I can think of is blue.
Ford was grey and Allis Chalmers is orange. Also a lot of competition between deere and chalmers. The tractor was the way I learned to drive.
Boy, THIS SEARCH results in a fun, colorful page, doesn't it?
99% of this is true for rural Pennsylvania as well! As for the start of deer season being a holiday (around here it's the Monday after Thanksgiving), our local schools used to have so many kids out that they gave the kids an extra day for Thanksgiving vacation to accommodate it! And if you're scheduled day for trash collection is Monday, for that week you were moved back to Tuesday - geesh!
Fun page Ron, I especially like the camel-colored rig.
Goes for MN too...and I have done and know pretty much all that.....

And I was rural royalty too - our FFA chapter's Chapter Sweetheart :hearts: 8) .... BUT...I had brains w/ beauty (lol)...I pissed them all off as I was also Star Chapter Agribusinessman (woman!) the same year!!
