I wouldn't take your pup anywhere like that at least until he's had his complete series of shots. My vet always tells me not to take them to any formal training classes until at least 16 weeks of age, maybe even longer. |
We probably won't bring Dahlia to a groomer to at least 6 months old... if not, older. We have been introducing her to "grooming" by giving her a bath and brushing her. We have some light organic no tear puppy shampoo and we just make it fun for her with lots of treats. We introduced her to the bathroom with the tub running, toilet running, hairdryer etc just so she was used to a lot of noise, and then we scooped her up and went in the bathtub with her. We fluffed her dry and gave a light brushing.... and she was good to go! |
as a groomer i would say as soon as possible, but only when they have had all their shot. most groomers offer a free puppy introduction where your puppy comes for around half an hour, gets totally spoilt, experiences being on the table, having a brush and the dryer put on them, maybe a visit to the bath but not bathed, and if needed its nails clipped. i find dogs that dont go the groomers after they are one are generally a pain in the ass and are scared of everything where the ones that just come for the introduction are fine with everything. as for coming for a groom, thats just up to you, as you should be regulary grooming your dog even from a young age. do yourself one favour though.... get it used to having its front legs done, most sheepies i groom turn into turtles as soon as i get to their front legs |
I was at my groomer's today with Charm, just to show her off it was before hours though. She had a quick nail trim, and lots of loving. I'm glad to know it was the right thing to do. I want her to be a good girl for her "spa" outings |
