Are you keeping the pad hairs trimmed?

Also it helps to shorten up the hair so it's not in contact with all the wet and mud and acting like a mop or wick -

Both are easy, pretty invisible when viewing the dog, and avoid the dreaded "poodle foot" look!
I'm looking forward to everyone's answers to this! The streets here are mucky, even the quick morning walk causes problems. It depends how much mud we are talking about, Rufus needs wiping over with a wet cloth & then drying with a towel. Of course then he seems permanently damp ish. You can leave your dog in a suitable room to just dry & most of it will fall off but that's not the cleanest option! I used to have a 'sheepie dip' bucket & dip each paw before he was allowed in the house, but that's a very wet option, trying to dry your sheepie when you are late for work is no fun. I hate the thought of him sitting around with damp skin & fur.
This is a nightmare for me! Summer hates her feet trimming, and it is only me that attempts it. They do need doing badly, might try them today actually!
Our garden is so muddy, we have had so much rain that I struggle to get her out for a wee. I have told her she can wee on the path like Tilly does, but she hangs on. Saturday I stood out the garden in the rain, when we came in I was wet, Summer was wet and my kitchen floor. It took 2 attempts to clean it!

Poor you! I feel for you. Tiggy HATES going out to pee or poop in the rain. Many times I've stood getting wet while Tiggy stands under the eaves with the stubborn "no I'm not coming out in the rain" look on her face. But if I give in to her I've got a pee to mop up off the kitchen floor and I'd rather the mud.

Tiggy hasn't figured out how an umbrella works. :?
I kind of just gave up caring, to be honest. We keep her feet trimmed, I wipe her down as much as I can and dry her off as best as I can. I think that someone should design a flooring pattern with paw prints on it, so that her muddy feet pattern would just blend in.

Well, they do have fabric in paw print, the dogs' old beds on the porch are decorated in the print as well as the natural mud. The floors often have that distinctive pattern and I just wait until it dries and can be easily swept up.......leaving only ghost images

Chewie's paws are also perfect..... :headbang:

Here: it is the dreaded poodle feet with a good clip on the lower leg hairs. Soon, though it will be "poodle cut" time when the sheepers become fuzzy greyhounds or poodle puppy-cuts.....depending on Mom's mood at the moment.
life would be so much easier if we could give them poodle feet and at the same time get the courage to walk them lol
my garden is just a mass of mud and when i let three dogs out they dont go out quietly.
i have mud trapper mats at the door, then tiles so i get to mop constantly. then carpet which soaks up loads ( i love my carpet shampooer) then a good ol leather settee which is nice and wipable.
trying to get hold of them when they come in to wipe the paws is like a comedy show and the only clean patch is where i am kneeling.
i just give up!
This is the time of the year I apprecaite having: 1. 3 dogs who can romp together & therefore get exercise & 2. My gravel dog run for them to romp & exercise in. :D

Now if I could ONLY teach them to come in out of the rain.......... :headbang:
I will make sure to keep those paws trimmed. Before we got Moe we changed tile in kitchen from white(yikes) to brown..so i dont have to mop three times a day to not look like a kennel. I guess the good news is he loves the rain so no prblem getting him out in the rain..in fact I bought a new slicker since he even likes soccor in the rain..have to hook him up with the high school team that practices behind my house
This afternoon Howie Mark & I went to the park for playtime. Howie found a huge puddle that had a thin layer of ice on it. :excited: He got digging and playing in the muddy water.
He was so cute, it was his first time discovering a big puddle! We laughed and then realized the mess we would have to clean up. :headbang: I think it was worth it.

I'm glad we always have an old blanket in the backseat!

Note to self: trim paws tomorrow. Good thread.

peg and muddy howie
Not only is the trimming paw pads good for mud, but my dog once had a knot of fur stuck up inside the paw pad causing him to limp 8O A visit to the Vet who found it was a knot of hair stuck  We keep his paw pads trimmed now!
