Hello All!

I stumbled upon this forum while researching OES. My fiancé and I are planning on adding to our little family this summer. We've paid our deposit to the breeder, the litter is planned for May, we'll take our baby home eight weeks later. We're super excited for our new baby, and, true to my planner self, I've been researching like crazy! I have plenty of questions, and I'm sure I'll have even more once we get the puppy, so you'll most likely be seeing a lot of me! I can't wait to get to know all of you!!! :D

Welcome to our little corner. Happy your home will be sheepied this summer. Fun times ahead. Ask questions, owners from all over the world and a rather chatty little group.

Hello and Welcome from Tennessee. Looking forward to pictures of your new baby!
Thanks, everyone! I'm located in Indiana, and I've already learned SO MUCH from this forum. The one thing that I have yet to find is an experience OES groomer, so if anyone has any suggestions as to where to find one, I'd love to hear them! Thanks so much!
Well, not to be a downer, but from my experience, unless you're really really lucky (and have a lot of extra $), if you want to keep your sheepdog in full coat, it's a d.i.y. project. Not that that's impossible, I spend about 3 hours/week on keeping Mady groomed. If you're planning on keeping your sheepie in various shorter puppy-cut styles, a groomer might be useful then.

And don't feel bad if you are not able to keep your sheepie in full coat. Yes, I love their full coats, but it's their amazing and irresistible personalities and temperaments which are most important. :hearts:
Thank goodness we were planning on keeping him in a puppy coat, then! While my significant other was definitely for a full coat, I told him that unless he's doing the daily brushing, it's up to me. He definitely left it alone after that.

I was hoping to find a groomer who had seen multiple OES before, as I've heard so many horror stories of nose shavings and the like. 8O I would never want to put my poor baby through that, so we're hoping to find someone. We currently have a Cairn Terrier who gets his Cairn cut every few weeks, but, as much as we love the groomer, she hasn't done an OES before. Can I trust her to do a good job, or should I find someone experienced???
Welcome from Milwaukee.

As for grooming...I have two sheepies and keep both in a shorter coat. I have gone through numerous groomers and have settled for...right now, two. One for baths and brushout and one for the actual cut down.

What I found out that has helped is to take in a picture and written instructions on what I want done. Usually the very first thing I put on the written instructions in capital letters is not to shave the dogs nose. I also put my phone # where I can be reached if there are any questions.

You are not very far from St. Louis and should come for Sheepiepalozza. Its in May and you can get a sheepie fix and check out all the various hairdo's we do.

And yes...we do need pictures and lots of them!!!
Thanks, Simon's Mom. I'll definitely try and check that out!! And I'll take your advice when it comes to groomers. Honestly, it's fur, and it will grow back, I would just feel so guilty if my baby was uncomfortable. :(

As far as pictures, my fiancé and I have first pick of the boys, and we're getting pictures weekly from when they're born, so there will be plenty. I'm so excited, I can barely contain it!!! :D :D :D
Welcome from Texas. Hope the next few months fly by for you.
