It's gonna be a looonnnngggg weekend

Kayli's been lying in the sun and I think her shaved leg is gettng sunburned . . . at least she's not chewing on the incision. I called the vets to ask if I could put any sunscreen on the leg - it's the side of the thigh, not near the incision - but she thought it best not to, understandably. She suggested putting a sheet over Kayli - yeah, she'll tolerate that for .1258 of a second.

I had 15 yards of mulch delivered today and after 2 hours of hauling, I'm already quite bored (and sore) with the whole thing. Either I'm not putting enough down or I ordered WAY too much! Not good.

One of the piles covers the width of the driveway so I can't get the wheelbarrow over it to get the the front of the house! I'll have to borrow the neighbor's and then he'll stand there chatting while I'm busting my butt.

Last, but certainly not least, Belle is a leafy, dead-grassy mess who has decided that the new mulch tastes good! How am I supposed to deal with that?? The mulch is going to be everywhere, I can't be watching her all the time!!!! 8O

Great - now the nosy neighbor across the street is coming over to chat. I think I'll hide here, unless she's going to volunteer to haul mulch!

I feel better now . . . thanks for letting me feel sorry for myself.

Mud eatting puppy too eh? Mine does that as well! It's a bit easier for me to keep her from eatting mud though - since she is on a leash every moment she is outside with me.

I hope gardening goes well this year for you! And don't worry about complaining! :D If it makes you feel better - I say - say whatever you want. ^_^
lol...great picture.
I need some mulch too bad I'm so far away...or I would offer to take it off your hands for you :D
Elissa
Elissa . . . it is too bad . . . I'll ship it to you! (I'm so funny!)

Integra - thank you for your kind garden wishes. We'll see how it goes with the flower-sitter-onner in the house this summer! Belle's already demolished the tulips and keeps laying on the lilies that are trying valiantly to grow. So far I haven't lost anything, I don't think.

It is SO dry out there I can't believe it. Last year we had a wet spring and the plants just loved it. At least I won't have weeds, unless they can sprout through 42" of mulch!!!
Jil, I feel your mulch pain! We did that more times than I care to count and darn near killed ourselves each time!

As for Belle liking to lie in it, sorry - I can't help you there. Drez was never a dirt layer, just a swimmer. The pic of Belle with the mulch residue is too cute!

I hope you can keep Kayli away from her incision and her out of the sun (yeah, right!).

Just take care of yourself, lady!

Chris
Mulch, yuck! The only smell I can tolerate is the cedar, the rest all smell like manure to me! I did it once myself and I had the complete opposite problem: I didn't have enough. We had a lot of landscaping and I had never done it so I figured about 15 bags would be enough. Wrong! 75 bags and 4 trips to Home Depot later, I was sore, bitter, sunburned and vowed to never do it again. I feel your pain. Lucy's a dirt layer too-- and she's all white. Her whole underside ends up looking like her beard. It's very attractive ;)
MULCH!!!!!!!!! Did someone say mulch?????????? I need a truck load, send some right over. After spending about 5 hours today shoveling top soil, mulch would be a breeze. I built a house in the fall and am now trying to get some flower beds and some kind of lawn in. Unfortunately I live in an area where the most prolific thing that grows is ROCKS. So Tasker and I have been picking and shoveling since early morning. Or I should say I've been picking and shoveling and Tasker has been laying in the shade watching. He's pretty much a slug muffin, to lazy to even try to dig up the flowers.

He's passed out in the middle of the dining room floor right now, you would think HE'D been working all day.
Jil-
That picture is too funny! I should send Luke and Rosco over , they could all have a contest for dirtiest face  I will warn you that Rosco could find mud in the desert. Glad Kayli is doing better.

Holly
Jil,
It appears Belle is indicating everyone is long over
due for a relaxing day at the dayspa, complete with a
mud treatment....

:D :D :D
I guess I should be listening to Belle, huh!?!?

Another day of shoveling mulch and trying to keep Floof out of the sun and Belle out of the mulch pile. Blech. Still not done, of course, but getting there.

I do have a LOT left over, so if any of you Michigan folk need some cedar mulch . . . .

Mom & I went to the Ann Arbor Antiques Market this morning and I got a nice green bench, an old sign that says "Yard of the Month sponsored by the Garden Study Club" and this really cool iron thing that looks like it belonged on a window. It's a couple feet high, crescent moon shaped with a "floor". I think Fire Escape when I see it, but it was probably mounted on a high window so you could open it and not fall out. Did that make sense? Anyway, I'm going to put it by the A/C unit instead of the boxwood that's there now. I think it will be cool.

I did the same thing with the bags of mulch a couple years ago. That's why I voted for having it delivered. Too bad I can't measure worth a darn!

Tasker's Mom I feel your pain. I did that last year. Luckily this place doesn't have rocks. The last place I lived was pretty much solid clay after a couply inches of topsoil. Ugh. Does it at least look like you've made some progress? It does here so at least I can collapse with some sense of accomplishment!
When Maggie had some surgery on her foot we put a sock on her leg that covered the incision and held it together with the stretchy self-adhering gauze wrap. Still had to be changed frequently but did prevent her from licking her wound and would also keep the sun off.

She eats mulch too, but really loves potting soil. We've seen that black bearded muddy mouth here, too!
Hey, where are you Michigan folk? I've been sitting on the front porch for hours waiting and I don't see any trucks pulling up for mulch!?!?! Bring the sheepies along, Belle says it's mighty tasty stuff. She's now managed to pull some of it in from under the fence so she can be closer to me and still snack. I'm glad to hear that this is "normal".

Pete, my nice old neighbor has been taking garbage can fulls all the way around his house to the back of his yard. He's so sweet . . . he won't even let me help him shovel and I've offered a couple times. (My momma brought me up right!)

Another yard grumble . . . I hate hoses! I never had a problem until I moved here and now every hose I buy for the front sucks. The last one split open. Luckily I was sitting in the living room and heard the water spraying on the front window.

Hose reels suck too.

I'm off to mow the back yard and water the front & side. Neighbor Bill says I can use his water for the front until I can get the hoses out of the garage and up to the front - the mulch pile is still totally blocking the driveway. This act of kindness starts to make up for his act of cruelty yesterday; watching me work while he stood there with a glass of Coke, ice tinkling in the glass.

Looks like it will be a while before I can get the motorcycle on the road . . . . wouldn't the girls look great in a sidecar? I need one of those.
