Hmm...my dogs have some balck pigment on the bottom of their gums and I never thought it might be a problem Anxious to hear what others say... |
Same here. Chowder has black spots pop up and we've been told its just coloring. |
yes, 1st time you spot it can be alarming, but is normal coloration in their gums and mouths. |
Brick has a black spot on his tongue, right in the middle, a little further back. I never worried about it. |
How about the roof of the mouth? All my sheepies and of course all the Pyr have had "leopard" mouths......spots on the mouth roof and some of those splashes have ended up on the gums and even a spot or two on the tongue as well. Only MO is currently handy, so I opened her up.........all the gum below the lower front teeth is black. Everything else is pink. There's a lot of "pigment" gene in sheepdogs, especially if they have the dark lips and good eye liner. (thankfully they don't have the chow-chow black tongue!) Still you are wise to keep an eye on it....you never know........ |
I will watch them. Thanks for all the input. |
Winnie (who shares a Dad with Bogey) has the same thing - black spots on roof of her mouth and a little on the gums. Keep an eye on it, but I think it's normal pigmentation. Our vet hasn't said a thing about them - and she's frequently examined Winnie's mouth. |
