Just let them grow with the rest of her hair. |
Dawn is definetely right here. Never cut the eyeleashes themselves, even if you give your Bobtail a puppy cut. It is those long stiff eyelashes that actually keep the "fall" out of direct contact with their eyes. The little gap that results from this is very important in allowing these guys to actually see as well as they can. In our family both the boss boy Virgil Tiberius and the late Martin Zephram have very long and stiff eyelashes. Neither has had any problem seeing though their fall as long as it is properly groomed. Virgil's little girl Dawn Eline on the other hand does not have such long stiff eyelashes and is significantly more hampered by her fall if it has not been groomed within the last 48 hours. We often have to put her hair up in a topknot to ensure that she can see and get around without problems. Clearly there is variability from dog to dog but for everyone the eyelashes are important for them to see. Thanks and Cheers Carl |
wow-- great info! I didn't know about this! I always just trimmed my girls hair, and didn't pay much heed to eyelashes. We've been growing the coats out here since last April, and I now see those lashes quite clearly. I'll be more careful of them when we next cut the girls' hair! Thanks everyone! |
Thank you for your responses. I am glad that I have not touched them. Libby's seem to be fairly stiff and they definiely do seem to help keep the hair out of her eyes, I just wasn't sure if they would need to be trimmed on occasion. I will leave them alone. |
Great question Nancy. I had never thought about this before either. Thanks Carl! |
