We are on the very edge of the predicted 12-20 inches zone.....goody I got up at 6:30am to let dogs out and nothing was happening. Went back to bed, got up at 8am....and this is what was out there - well, no looking out that window... OK, that's better. Guess this can be the "before" picture, just a couple inches of new, on top of the half melted frozen snow piles... view to the east along the windbreak...and yes, I still have my Christmas flag out! Bunny and Chewie out for a quick potty run. I'll update as this all day snow continues..... It is warm out, 27F, but the wind is pretty bad. |
|
We are supposed to have snow and then freezing rain. I got all dressed to take the dogs for a walk before the worst of it hit but was too late. I as I was getting ready the freezing rain started. There maybe no walks today. Walking in the snow isn't bad but I wimp out in freezing rain. We have had teasing spring like weather for the past week so while this is normal WI weather - it just seems depressing. I was ready for spring! Hope you have a good snow day! |
We were supposed to get freezing rain 1st too - I didn't notice any, as it was snow when I got up. They are saying maybe freezing mix later today, hope not! It is getting warmer - we are now at 29F.... "just" snow would be best! |
Snow didn't start here until mid morning . At 8:30 a.m., no snow. An hour or so later: a LOT of snow, coming down steady since, at least 4 inches in those 3 hrs. Last I knew, it's supposed to continue through out the day and night. Yesterday they were predicting 6-15 inches. If it keeps up for the day, we'll definitely get the 15 inches. We also didn't get much of the ice they predicted. When hubby took the dogs out for their walk this morning, sidewalks looked wet; he said they were slippery but whether it was melt/re-freeze or new frozen precipitation, I don't know. Just glad I don't have to work today. |
No snow here yet. We really don't know how much is predicted for us because everytime they report it's different. I do know southern WI is suppose to get the most with possiblity of thunder snow. Just don't want the freezing rain. |
I don't think I'm going to get enough for a snow day. That's always my only concern. |
I've seen reports we are in the 5-7 inch range so far. We have so much wind here on the prairie that you really can't tell - it's either bare ground or old snow/ice exposed...up to new drifts several feet tall! Now we have increased wind and sleet/freezing rain coming down. Noisy on the steel house siding NOT a very pretty day out there. |
I was looking at the weather models last night and noticed southern Minnesota was smack dab in the freezing rain zone.......and I said, "Oh no Chewie, no sleding for you." (please note I didn't say "Dawn", just Chewie) Also noticed another model had the ice miss you...barely...to the south, just snow.....far better model unless you live in Iowa. We've glady sent this to you, it was a bust here as we were on the tail end, literally the tail end like Crack the Whip, all we got was the wind. Finally sun peeking out....we get squirrely here if we don't see the sun every day. |
Technically, I guess both were correct, as we got lots of nice fluffy snow, now the freezing rain... And it's been really disgusting out...no sledding, no nothing Just house-bound today. |
Forecast form me is only 2-4 inches tonight and tomorrow. Most of the snow (that hadn't been shoveled off) had melted, I'm hopefull a small addition won't cause issues. You can bet I'll be brushing off what I can. |
...and we are back to big, fluffy snow I really am hoping to avoid rain that makes a skating rink...so snow is better And it is really windy.....Todd is dreading plowing it, as it will be packed in hard. |

Still all white and fresh around my house before any more!!! |

Expecting about 6 inches here...then freezong rain. Rather snow than that freezing stuff We can't even walk outside with that ice on the deck. Rather have nice fluffy snow It was about 60 degrees Friday. Started to get Spring fever..Then yesterday, 60 mph wind and now more snow...Did we piss someone off or what????? |
Only about 6 inches so far and it's switched over to some version of freezing rain. Hope it switches back to nice, fluffy snow again. I must say, the fresh layers of fluff look really pretty. |

Thats just Mother Nature laughing at us. Dawn, Mankato(sp) made the weather channel again. I did go for a walk today to the big off leash area...in the snow and freezing rain. I looked into two pairs of pleading brown eyes and I caved. It wasn't that bad and I was the only one there, real shock that was Boys came home wet and happy. We got what every one else is getting, snow, freezing rain, more snow, for today. More instore for us tomorrow. I really need to move somewhere warm... |
Y'all aren't going to warm up anytime soon either. |
We got about 1 inch only but we are now getting the slushy stuff. So it is slick again but not totally iced over. I guess it's back to the old plan of shoveling & sanding the dog run |
I found out last night the dogs don't like freezing rain or sleet. It started snowing here in Michigan around 1 yesterday afternoon. Turned to rain around 6pm, then snow again around 9 pm. The mornings commute should be interesting. I'm waiting for Troy to get home from the airport this morning. He's got his Challenger definately not a snow car. Lisa Frankie and Mattie |
Well, It's Monday A.M. and here in St. Louis Park, MN , there is a good 18". The news stations say we got 12". When I went out my front door, it was up to my knees. I didn't even care what the city ordinance for noise is, I used my snowblower. There was ice under the snow which makes things a little trickey. The dogs seem to like new snow, even though it is pretty deep for them. They do have 'coats' and the look so darn cute in them. Also it cuts down on the towel drying. Gracie especially likes wearing her coat and will go lay on her pillow with it on. We are suppose to get another 3" today an more on Wednesday and Friday or Saturday. Oh, yeah, it is either sleeting or freezing rain. Roads not plowed yet and haven't seen a plow on the road except when the plow went thru the alley at 4:00AM. As far as I'm concerned, "SNOW" is a 4-LETTER WORD!!! Playing 'What's my Lane' is getting to be a hassle as well. Nancy, Abbey, Gracie and Ollie |
And it is snowing here...again! So much wind and drifting I honestly have no clue how much we got. I shoveled out in the dog yard (around the fence edges, so dogs don't escape!) and then sidewalk out front. SO HEAVY! and we got inches of sleet pellets, never seen that before. If all that would have been snow, we would have been really in trouble...it would have been over the windows! Here's the front - after Todd plowed the yard out. pretty good piles again! And the county still hasn't plowed our road yet. Lisa and Alex got through to drop Norah off with Lisa's Jeep...so not toally impassable. And it is really coming down again. Looked on the radar and this snow blob is kind of parked over us. Oh goody.... |
chance of freezing drizzle for you thru the afternoon.......sure what's a little icing on all that snow! What's your snow pack moisture level?......are you in danger of spring floods with all this white ****? |
SheepieBoss wrote: chance of freezing drizzle for you thru the afternoon.......sure what's a little icing on all that snow! What's your snow pack moisture level?......are you in danger of spring floods with all this white ****? It just hit 33 degrees, so freezing rain is quite possible. The snow has been quite dry prior to this, although the sheer volume has flood predictions up for this spring. This latest snow was somewaht more wet and heavy (but not the worst it could be), but all the sleet pellets are solid water, so they will be quite the wet stuff with the next thaw. Very odd to shovel, it's like scooping piles of BB's! They just roll all over, and make the solid surfaces quite scary to walk on. Never seen anything quite like this...and I'm a nearly 50 year old native! |
We got an inch here, further south of us was more and the drifting was pretty bad. We have a northeast wind coming down from MI and that's really miserable. It was tricky walking when we took the "boys" for their heartworm tests this morning. |
ButtersStotch wrote: I don't think I'm going to get enough for a snow day. That's always my only concern. I stand corrected. We did get a snow day! No work for me. Woohoo! |
I live in flood country. Last week when there were several warm days in a row and a lot of snow melt (but still plenty of snow on the ground), the fast running little creeks were full. And lower lying fields with frozen ground were topped off by widespread pools of water. I expect they are now ice again, but yes, there will be floods. |
Yeah, I went back thru the snow pack records and noticed you had a big time melt on the 18-19th, don't remember which....19th I think. Haven't searched out the flood potential for your areas, but I'm not surprised. While you'd all love a quick warm spring, let's hope for a slow...dry one N (no rain). Flood insurance?? Hooray on a snow day!! Don't think I've seen snow/ice ball bearings in any great quantity. Doesn't sound like fun in any manner. |
Luckily we are on the highest ground around. We are surrounded by several small lakes with connected drainage ditches...it all is part of a large lake system. We have had high waters in the whole system the last year. One of the old stone farm bridges (in a pasture) down the line collapsed. It's very effectively backed up all of us "upstream", just like a beaver dam. It is on the couny's agenda to unblock it this spring when they can access it. Now we add in the extremely wet fall, higher than normal winter moisture...yeah, we are at risk. I am very much hoping for a cold spring. Thaw during the day, refreezing at night. Luckily our house and farm buildings are in a safe spot. We already have water encroaching in the lower parts of our pasture from last fall, and now more from the thaw last week. We may need our canoes to get out, but we are high enough to be safe! And it is STILL snowing at 4pm of day 2!! |
At least here it got warm enough to melt every last bit of it at the end of last week. Now it is all new snow & ice on the the ground. Mostly a slushy ice earlier today but snowing like crazy right now. At least right now Isaac can navigate in it. |
We no longer have a winter weather advisory. It is now a winter storm warning. Now they are telling us up to 1" per hour & possibly 8" overnight. I am SO ready for SPRING! |
Y'all probably wish you were further south, except in the next few days they will be having problems with tornados.......pick your poison. I'd send you our sunshine, except I want it to stay here. Had to turn on the sprinklers today with hopes the lawn is still alive from a very, very dry winter. MO in long coat, playing in the sprinklers then running thru the field......not nice. |

yeah it was. Didn't mention I'm still wearing sweats and a hat (or wig) to stay warm during the day.......still not warm weather, just sunny and dry. |
Yeah, I know all about that. It's snowing here in Missouri again TODAY!!! We suppose to have 6 inches by midnight. It is never going to eeeeeeeeeeend!!! |
Well, we in Minnesota are supposed to catch a break this time, and it is supposed to stay south of us. I HOPE!!! LeAnne and I are leaving this afternoon to drive over to Milwaukee and visit Marnie, Kristine and Sunny. Don't want the stinkin' weather messing with our plans!!! Oh, and btw - we had horrid ice on Tueday morning and me (along with many others) ended up ditch hopping with our cars. Mine was a spectacular spin out that resulted in me being backwards in the center ditch.... I was in a group of 4 cars in the ditch. There were so many along this stretch of highway that the tow trucks were under state patrol escort, pulling people out....it was quite the morning! Thankfully, car and I were all fine. |
Shall I go outside and take some photos of our daffodils to cheer you? |

Marilyn, if you'll bring a puppy or two with you, you're more than welcome to come for a nice long visit!! |
Naturally...and almost traditionally, here we have a sudden WARM front moving through, melting our snow JUST in time for Fur Rondy, the World Championship Sleddog Races, and Iditarod. If everything goes as is typical, it will freeze right back up again and snow like crazy AFTER all the winter events are over with. |
Yeah, it has been a problem these last few years. So much is run over mud and rocks......yeah gads! |
Whoops...hold on! Its snowing now! Whew!!!! This HUGE warm wind came through this afternoon that took our temperature up to almost 50F (on our deck, in direct sun ), but now its back down in the teens...weird! I had NO idea I had missed so much poo over the winter in our yard |
ravenmoonart wrote: I had NO idea I had missed so much poo over the winter in our yard Always an eye-opener....isn't it???? |
ChSheepdogs wrote: ravenmoonart wrote: I had NO idea I had missed so much poo over the winter in our yard Always an eye-opener....isn't it???? Yes--seems we have an abundance on our walk around our pool this year--tomorrow should be warm enough to do some clean up! We don't usually have much snow but did this year--I guess they just go where they can be quick or can't distinguish the walk from the yard! |
ChSheepdogs wrote: Beaureguard's Mom wrote: Shall I go outside and take some photos of our daffodils to cheer you? Rub it in Tammy! Rub it in Tammy It's snowing again here too...imagine that...actually both places - at home in MN, and here in MIlwaukee where I am now. Double whammy! |
sigh...it snowed here last night. Enough so that we had to get the snow shovel out. Drat! Served me right for showing off my sunny but cold weather pics. Did you send it here? Marianne |
Marianne wrote: sigh...it snowed here last night. Enough so that we had to get the snow shovel out. Drat! Served me right for showing off my sunny but cold weather pics. Did you send it here? Marianne I undoubtably sent it. I have those powers...... We had a forecast for flurries. 6 inches here at home (back home in MN now) and 4 inches where I was in MIlwaukee. Quite the "flurries"! |
