Mattie graduated from a class we took for reactive dogs. It was a small class of just 3 other dogs and there owners and us. We have been to a few places mostly the vets office when we see another dog Mattie goes berserk and not in a good way. So I figured I might as well try to see what I could do to help resolve this problem. Then I found this class. It really was kind of interesting how it was conducted. Every dog and owner are divided so nobody can see each other. Then the work is done out in front with the trainers dog and you and your dog. Passes, stops with distance between you and the other dog. When your not doing the work you have to keep your dog from reacting to the other dogs out front. Which for those of you who have reactive dogs, know that that can be a challenge. We really enforced touch and watch. Walking with an arc, scoot sits were also things we learned. Some dogs there were also reactive to people. At the last 2 classes Mattie just laid down and slept towards the end of the class. She was bored and relaxed. The other 3 students were asked to take the class again, and the trainer thinks that we both have enough knowledge to get us out of an uneasy situation. So she wants Mattie to take a class that she can have a job in, to build her confidence. So she suggested Begining Rally Obedience. So I think we will try that. I'm so proud of our girl. Congrates....you've been so clever! Good luck with the Obedience; She might learn to love it, and it gives you such a nice connection. |
