Yuki has swallowed 100!!!!!!!!! She just poops them out. No biggie |
Mady once swallowed a sharp piece of plastic (chewed off of an empty peanut butter container that I gave her!). The vet told us to watch for blood in her stool, not wanting to eat, and just general change in behaviour. She pooped it out. The dance of joy that we did when she pooped it out safely was, well, ridiculous. Never paid so much attention to poop in my life. |
I'd watch for a blockage. Make sure she is eating and pooping regularly. Throwing up and/or diarrhea would be bad signs and she will need to be taken the vet immediately. Go through her poop to make sure it comes out. Hope it passes easily and quickly! |
Another sock eater!! There are some post here somewhere from Tracy regarding Rudy's sock eating dramas. Khloe may barf the sock up or it might pass. I think a lot of vets recommend you give them something to make them throw up but I'm lucky Tiggy only ever chewed things up and spat them out so I can't comment on what to give them or how long afterwards is still worthwhile. If the sock passes all is ok but it can get stuck and cause an obstruction. You need to watch miss Khloe carefully. If she stops eating, starts vomiting in a day or so or can't poop go to your vet immediately as the obstruction can be fatal. Just saw Mrs J's post maybe baby socks pass better than full size ones. |
If you are really worried and it just happened, you can either get hydrogen peroxide down her throat. aprx a 1/4 cup or try syrup of Epicak (sp?) If you use the peroxide, get outside fast because it works in less than a minute. You will get the sock and white foam for a little while and she will look at you like "HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?". Don't give water for a couple hours. Ask me how I know.......... Nancy |
Thank you! next I will be explaining to the baby's mommy why I am only sending him home with one sock. Ugh. :-/ I will let you all know how everything comes out. |
Oh, I second the hydrogen peroxide suggestion if it happens again and you can get to her quickly. Don't ask me how I know either... Fingers crossed. I'd watch her carefully, but she'd have to be darn unlucky to be obstructed by something that small given what many OES have managed to pass. Kristine - who has also developed an unfortunate closer relationship with what comes out of that end of the dog than she ever really wanted.... |
Summer wasnt very old and I realised a trainer sock had gone off the radiator. I convinced myself I had lost it. Summer sicked it up a day or so later, OMG did it stink! |
Oh I feel for you. A baby sock is teeny, at least it is not a large man's tube sock. I agree with Nancy. Yep peroxide is a miracle fix. I posted about 6 weeks ago. The vet told me to give 1 tablespoon of peroxide and go outside with pup. Wait 5 - 10 minutes and sure enough the sock came up along with some food. The key is give it to dog as soon as you see the object swallowed. Good luck, hope it comes up or out soon, peg |
Kari.......... Tell the baby's mom he only came with one sock. Ask her what she did with it. |
haha... that's funny. She'd think she was losing it which would be typical of any mommy Anyway, this has been a thread several times before. All said their dog just pooped it out and had a problem with it (it was ongoing). Our problem was just when yuks was a pup. She's take them right out of the laundry basket. |
My boy Wilby used to eat everything! EVERYTHING!!! One time got to see what he would have looked like wih a tail since the sock was not "releasing" Hope all passes! |
I'm not so sure I would recommend the forcing vomitting with the hydrogen peroxide solution... I know that is often recommended when ingesting sOME substances ( not always) . Not all things should be vomitted up and I'm not sure socks is one. It could get caught on the way up and choke. But, I'm not sure... A baby sock is small BUT I would still be on alert for any possible sign of blockage. Attemtping to poop and nothing coming out...distended tummy...lack of appetite...not wanting to lay down on belly...tender tummy when touching...trying to vomit and nothing comes out...all signs of a possible and/or partial blockage... Wasn't it on this forum that a dog had a blockage from a sock??? I would be outside with my dog watching the poop and be on alert of other signs of distress. Hope everyhting comes out okay... |
Hope all passes without issue! Poor baby. |
Aww, hope things work out I thought Khloe would be scarfing Poor babygirl, now her business will be front and center for a few days!!! |
Any news on the sock front (or rear)? (It's still early.) |
Well she has pooped once today, but there was no sock present. I chose to not do the peroxide thing just the wait and see approach. She seems to be acting her normal crazy self. Thanks for asking. I will keep you posted. |
Keri, Hope she poops it out soon...are you CERTAIN she actually did swallow the baby sock? I'm surprised in two days nothing has come out yet. |
Pretty positive, she snatched it off the floor and ran underneath the dining room table. I was reaching in to grab it and she was chewing on it. All the sudden I watched her stop chewing and she took a big gulp. The sock was gone. |
Hmm...hope it comes out soon then. No way can she digest it. The longer it stays in there, the higher risk of a blockage and/or it causing the intestines to get infected. I think someone on this board went through that with a corn cob that stayed a while and actually never came out and the dog needed surgery. I would really encourage you to go to the vet. Not to scare you but if you are POSITIVE she swallowe the sock and nothing has come out in almost three days now, I think she is a walking timebomb...Please make a vet visit...Wishing you well and hope you see something soon. |
Do you feel this way even if she is pooping, eating and acting normal? We haven't seen anything yet. |
Well, that's what makes me ask if you are certain she actually ate the sock...Its been quite a few days now, right? Eating, pooping normal? Could it be it came out without you noticing it Are you always outside with her while she pottys? I mean, a baby sock is what, about two or three inches big? Possible it came out and you didn't notice? |
I know when Mady ate that piece of plastic it took a few days for it to come out and in the meantime she ate and pooped as normal. Was a stressful few days and I swear I was dreaming about poop. We did take her to the vet, who told us to watch her behaviour, eating, pooping etc. |
Just to muddy the waters. Rastus ate an acupuncture needle when he was having acupuncture at the vets once. The vet fed him muesli and cotton wool soaked with cod liver oil and parafin oil. At seven days there was no sign of the needle so they Xrayed him and couldn't see it, so they said I must have missed it in his poop. I was saying "no way, I've grossed myself out checking the poop with a stick" eww. The needle appeared on day eight. Rastus acted, ate and pooped normally for the whole time. Boy was I glad to see that needle and not have to check his poop every time. And we couldn't go to the park the whole time either. |
Mim wrote: so they Xrayed him and couldn't see it, ... I'm thinking your vet needs new x-ray equipment... Those are fine fine needles. The needle appeared on day eight. I would continue to watch and wait for another day or two... an xray won't show a sock. An ultrasound might. It will be pricey. I don't know what they would do at that point... Perhaps the vet will induce vomiting? Perhaps that's something you should try after a few days? I'm not sure what I would do. |
Oh, no I wasn't suggesting an Xray for a sock, it wouldn't show up. In Rastus's case the needle was hidden by the density of the pelvic bones. I don't know if an ultrasound would work either. But as you said it starts to get expensive. |
We have found with our oldest Boxer(Bailey), that she is a cloth snarfer. Probably has consumed and regurgitated 8-10 pieces that we have found. The clue for us is a large increase in water consumption which of course increases urinating which generally occurred in the house. Didn't realize why she was drinking and peeing so much--so we started to track foods--thinking it was a food issue. Noticed after a time that an upchucked piece of cloth occurred consistently a few days after the start of the excess drinking cycle. Other than the water and peeing, her eating and pooping and other insane activities were normal. Darn dog forced us be less sloppy and better housekeepers. Hope your mystery ends happily! |
We had a husky mix that if you caught her with something she wasn't supposed to have, down into her tummy it went. Everything usually came out alright except once where she ate all the stuffing out of a pillow. She was throwing up but she was pooping normally. The vet prescribed some doggy laxatives and for us to give her pumpkin. Everything came out fine but she did decide that she loved the laxatives so much that she climbed onto the top shelf, bit the tube in half and ate all the rest of the laxatives. Hope everything comes out alright for you dog. |
Just an update! She puked it up!!! Thank you Jesus! All is well. I am being much more cautious on the sock issue. Do not want to pay for surgery. I would much rather pay for fun things for my girlie!!!!! |
YAY good news |
I'm glad the sock reappeared VERY good news |
Good news! |
Yay!! That was quite the magic trick! |
Glad that sock made a re-appearance...wonder why it took so long. |
Great news!! |
Great News Are we all wierd or what? Cheering for puking! Seriously, I bet her tummy is mighty sore. Maybe some boiled chicken and rice comfort food for her a few days. We learned a long time ago with our two, neatness counts! Glad to hear she is okay! |
All this time? |
It certainly has taken a long time to come up. Which is why I can only assume it was in her tummy fermenting...That's why I suggested some nice plain boiled chicken and rice...Wouldn't be surpirsed if a small infection started in that tummy after having the sock in it for so long Don't be scared if there is a bit of loose stool following this "upheavel"... |
