In years past, we had a lab who did that. I found it annoying, as did the dogs he did it to! We use "leave it" for anything they are to ignore, so that's what he got told. He learned not to pull our other dogs by the collar.....at least in front of us! |

She is usually such a good girl, I am not used to her ignoring me! |

Like any command, especially during the learning stages, never say it unless you have the means to enforce it. So yes - either be close, on a long line, or be prepered to quickly scoot over to her and intervene. My dogs totally know when I give a command it is NOT an option. Now with Todd, and his less active follow-thru....yep, he is the less believed one! |
Garfunkel does this to Simon ALL the time. I don't care for it and have tried numerous times to stop it. No luck. Simon seems to have accepted it as part of putting up with the big lug. We had to put a buckle collar on Simon because an adjustable collar almost strangled him one day...after Gar tightened it up. |
Simon's Mom wrote: We had to put a buckle collar on Simon because an adjustable collar almost strangled him one day...after Gar tightened it up. That is exactly what worries me, as she is doing this to dogs at the park and I have no idea what collars they are all wearing. Yikes! I guess it is time to show Miss Mady that I am serious. |
that stinks it happens at the park instead of a more controlled environment (where you know the dogs). We make dogs take off their collars b/c Yuki was notorious for it. We'd stop her every time, but that was her thing... now that she's older ...she doesn't do it. So it just took time or finding something else to fight over like a chew toy. |
cappi does this too, fortunately all his dog pals now play without collars. he does it to dippy, my new pup, but then she will give him a slap for it. i also have to use a buckle collar in case he tightens the adjustable one when playing, so taking it off all the time is a pain. dippy, however is a tail biter, if cappi is running ahead she will grab his tail to keep up or stop him in his tracks! |
