I used the word "toy" with Kobuck. I had to show him what I meant at first... I'd say "TOY!", pick up a toy and put it in his mouth. It got so when he started mouthing or biting the other dogs while playing, I'd say that word and he'd pick up something close to him and continue to play. Sometimes the other dog would then play tug. He got past that phase and I don't have to use "TOY!" much anymore. |
I've taught Brick "gentle". Not really sure how I did it, but when he plays to rough with me or other dogs, I say "gentle" and he plays a little less aggressively. I think I did it when he was pup. Whenever he got too aggressive with me, I'd push him away and say "gentle" and keep pushing him away until he played more gently. Of course he got rewards when he played more gently. |
Wow I like the advice for this one. I have a big problem with Oliver for that. He looks like a polar bear when he is doing it while making Wookie noises from Star wars. LOL. But it does get frustrating. When ever he comes in from the outside he acts like he has never seen my other 2 dogs ever and bounces like tigger all over the place. So this might work for me too. Thanks for the Thread and the good advice, Traci |
Chowder knows "Chill" We started it really young when we needed her to calm down at all times, not just playing. Every time she calmed down, we said chill. She started connecting the two after about 3 weeks. |
