brand recommendations for pony tail holders

Wanted: wrestle proof pony tail holders

Anyone have a brand they swear by? Turkish is the pony tail escape artist!

I have many I use, and some are better in some hair than others.
I have the little bright colored ones plastic-like ones, the everyday human ones in several sizes and thicknesses. I've tried the grippy ones that have rubber strands - and while they work, they are really hard on the hairs - lots of breakage.

This currently is my favorite. If the hair is thin and wispy, it may not work that well. Chewie has very thick and abundant hair - I actually thin the topknot hair now to tame it.

This is a really sad, beatup ponytail package  , I've had them for several years and only have 3 left.
They are Goody brand, and on the bottom I *think* it says Limited Time Only :(

They have enough texture to grab the hair, but don't damage it. I reuse them over and over.
what the hell, I looked at this post and it had a pic of Dawn's tack box then I went back and it had the hair bands.

Am I going mad, is my computer going mad or did you edit Dawn?

I think you meant to post this pic Dawn. :D

I'd need my microscope to find the hairbands in your tack box, old age creeping up, you know how it is.

I was editing it while you were posting it
:twitch: thank goodness I had a twilight moment there. :phew:

And to add to it I edited my post but Dawn already copied the original so now the one I deleted is still there. Kind of an alternative reality thingy going on.

That was pretty weird, I will admit. Especially as we are on opposite sides of the world doing this! 8O

And the picture is just slightly smaller than actual size, to give it some scale.

'Aint the web grand! :clappurple:
Have you tried varying the number of times you wrap the elastic? Sometimes if the fur is too thick for 4 times around but it falls out if you only wrap it 3 times around, I use two bands at once and that bit of extra bulk from the second band seems to keep the ponytail secured with just 3 wraps. It also gives you the chance for those fun/seasonal color combos.

The Goody holders Dawn posted are great. The texture of the covering does seem to add that extra grip. I just bought some more last week so they are still available, though they were mixed in with the solid colors on a 1:3 ratio.

Have you tried the holders designed for kids that have a little plastic flower on one end a couple of balls on the other? It is on a much thinner cloth covered band. I noticed those tend to stay in a lot longer. I push all the little plastic parts together and just wrap it like a regular holder. I don't use those all that often as they are harder to find and I am a little concerned that thinner band might break coat. - My dogs play together every afternoon so if there is some serious rough-housing no matter what's in her pony is left in the lawn. :)
Thanks for the photo Dawn, that helps! I never thought of using 2 bands, cool idea.

I have been using little coloured elastics they come in a bag of 3 different sizes about 60 in a bag. Could be Goody brandy, not sure. I buy them at the drugstore. They work well and keep the hair in. They remind of of the little elastics the dentists use for braces!

I tried similar elastics from the pet grooming store...I found those broke easily and the hair broke too.

To cut these little elastic out of the hair I use a letter opener, the kind with the pointy end and the hide blade. Howie's breeder showed me that trick.

I like to learn what tricks and items others use to make life easier!

I just use those mega tiny braiding bands and split the top knots into two ponytails. I take them out probably every two or three days and put new ones in whether they need it or not since after a few days, they're ready to break so it's easier to catch it before it happens!
I use tiny orthadontic bands.
They still get wrapped around 2-3 times an no matter how much you stretch them they hardly ever break. Failing that with having 2 daughters theres always a normal bobble lurking around
I switched to the rubberbands for horses. Rubber seems to be more heavy duty and I was have a lot of rubberband failures after a wrestling match or face plant in to the bed (Bella's not mine actually) I got the white ones and they come in a bag with about 100 or so. one rubberband lasts me 3-4 weeks and I only throw it out since little tangles of hair get stuck to it rather than breaking.
Sally Beauty Supply carries small bands for brading. They don't damage the hair like rubberbands.
