Okay, men forum members, hate me... |
|
Im paying (ever so) slightly more attention to this now, than usual, because one of my closest friends is a Huge Packers fan, and feel like I need to care for his sake! I don't pretend to comprehend the obsession, though! |
I don't get it...but I watch for the other stuff....especially the commercials and the half time...and the messups... |
I would be watching it....but Todd hates football. Actually, he hates all professional sports in general. So, he's watching some stupid movie (I don't really care to watch movies... ), so I'm alternating between the conputer, some chips and salsa and doing a few odd dog, cat and household chores that have been neglected while I worked 20.5 hours yesterday and today |

Hates Sports?? I've never heard of such a thing. |
Hates football? Hates sports? Can I marry him???? Watching the game since it started. About an hour and a half. So far, no great commercials...My favorite of favorites was the one with the horse and the dog teaching him how to become a Clynesdale. It was the best! |
My house is so quiet. Mark is out at a Superbowl party..not my thing. Howie is at the vet clinic. Even my bunnies are sleeping under the couch now. I ordered in food and have the tv remote and whole couch to myself. It may be the only day of the year that this happens. I hope those folks watching the Superbowl are having fun. peg |
Todd doesn't hate sport - just professional sports. With the overinflated pay and egos..... yep, he's rubbing off on me. But the Christina Aguilera flub up of the national anthem??? Holy- If you missed it, it's already going crazy on Youtube. It was badly sung to boot! |
^^^^^^ yep dawn....totally agree with you!!!!! |

Hard to believe the price of ads for such so-so commercials. I expected more bang for the advertiser's buck. |
Has the Darth Vader one been on yet - that's my favorite. You can guess the ending, but I can see my husband doing something like that. |
We went to our friends superbowl party - left at halftime - haven't seen even a millisecond of the game since I was only there to visit & eat! I know Green Bay is playing because of family in Wisconsin, and that's where my involvement in this event ends. |

Do you mean Todd or are you talking about my David? I love sports and I somehow found the one guy in Canada who DOES NOT LIKE HOCKEY! He does like soccer and Formula One racing, so I have to content myself with that. But my days of watching March Madness basketball, hockey and football are behind me. Unless I convince Mady to watch! |

Unless I convince Mady to watch! ohhhh, I LOVE hockey!! My dad was a youth hockey coach and I grew up in ice arenas (when I wasn't at dog shows or field trials) and it was in the day when girls couldn't play PS - Todd went to bed at halftime and the game is on...... |
I did see the Darth Vader ad, very cute. Just caught the beetle commercial, my fav so far. |
Our household is totally apathetic when it comes to all sports but I have a special hate for football above all other sports. Nothing happens. I can make nothing happen at home by myself. We don't know any of those guys and most of them aren't even from the cities that they play for so who cares? I was just remarking to someone the other day about people who love college teams for colleges that they never went to. I don't get it. It's just sad, really. |
I "used" to say I'd rather stare at a blank wall then watch football. THEN, wham, Brett Favre came into the picture and took the packers to the Super Bowl. I got hooked. But just on the Packers. Not on all football. If the Packers were not in the Super Bowl I would not watch. With that said...... SUPER BOWL CHAMPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh so sweet. |
I went to a superbowl party with people from my husband's work. I am completely uninterested in football but it is a decent time to catch up with people I don't see often. We missed the national anthem and kick off as we arrived late and somehow I missed the half time show, but I understand both were horrendous. Some of the commercials were cute. Liked the Darth Vader one, the one with the dogs serving everyone at the party and whichever car one it was where it moved through dimensions and time portals was fun because of the sfx. |
I'm with Todd too, really not interested in any of it and find most of it boring, but I am happy the Packer's won, especially for Aaron. I was unlucky enough to hear some of the anthem being sung this morning. I hate it when they try to jazz it up let alone mess up the words......... sing it the way it was written. |
I'm with Todd! I can't stand professional sports for the same reason. I think we need to go back to where the money is spent on small local clubs especially on the kids. Yeah right it's not going to happen. There is a big screen TV in the lunch room at the Uni I work at 2 days a week (same dept. Wayne works in). I was busy at the computer all afternoon and then went to find Wayne. More than half the department including the manager were all sitting around watching the superbowl. They never watch American football the rest of the yea,r but all except Wayne are huge Aussie rules fans. I did see a tiny bit of the half time entertainment in my lunch break. I wasn't impressed. |

Ohio has always been a hotbed for football. And the town I grew up in..........well let's just say you learn about the game at a really young age. Like the baby boys born in our local hospital are each given a child-sized Massillon Tiger football at birth. I know it sounds crazy to the rest of you but it's really no crazier than what is the important thing in your area that you grew up with. My dad started taking me to watch the Saturday morning scrimmages & sophomore games when I was probably 5 years old. But you have to understand, when he went to high school Paul Brown was our high school's head football coach!!!! That was back in the late 30's & early 40's. So football is sort of ingrained in me. My one son played & lettered in football in high school & was the star fullback. Big but quick on his feet. Ended up MVP that year in not only football but another school sport. Granted I'd much rather watch a good high school or college game (and yes I do root for the Cincinnati Bearcats in both football & basketball Jill, but my son graduated from there & I presently have 2 granddaughter going to college there) but I do have a few favorite pro teams although I have to agree I think most pro sports are way, way, way overpaid. This past Superbowl was probably one of my favorites even tho' the Steelers didn't win as I really like both teams. We've been Steelers fans for going on 50 years now. What made it such a good game was you had 2 pro teams with such a rich football history behind them. And neither one "glided' into the Superbowl this year on someone else's mistakes. |

I couldn't have said it better myself! You can't live in/ near Columbus Ohio, and not have been exposed to the Buckeyes. I grew up in a football family-- brothers both lettered - and that was our Friday nights. Great memories. I prefer high school or college, but do get into some of the pro games, such as the Superbowl. We have fun with family and friends, and I see nothing wrong with rooting for people I don't know. Shoot, I don't know any of you guys, but I always hope you do well in your shows, and give a woo-hoo and a "Good Luck" . I love my teams and everything that goes along with it. And, I don't think it's weird at all... |
I can't imagine life w/o COLLEGE football, but superbowl is still HUGE in our house!! I agree a lot about the comments of professional football (game isn't as interesting, egos, etc), and that's why many people prefer college. I also knew from an early age that I COULD NOT marry a man who wasn't into the sport. That doesn't mean I think there's anything wrong w/guys who don't ...just think it's HOT when a man does! Just something I had to have!! Anyway, my mil sent me the youtube of the darth vader one b/c she said that's how lil J always acts. Loved it |
I actually don't mind football. I can enjoy a good game, I've been to a few CFL games here. My biggest beef with football and particularly NFL is just how slow it can get and how long it takes. 3 hours to watch a game on tv is usually way too much for me. As an aside, this was something I couldn't quite figure during the last soccer World Cup, there were a lot of stupid "why isn't soccer more popular in the US" kind of articles floating around. The thing I didn't get was, there were often a lot of comments like "soccer is too slow/nothing happens" etc. One thing I love about soccer, there's 90 minutes on the clock and the game WILL take 90 minutes (and the action is nearly constant, in comparison to American football). It drives me nuts that "2 minutes" in an NFL game can take 30 minutes to play... Disclaimer: I am NOT concerned with how popular soccer is in the US. It will never be close in popularity as NFL/NBA/MLB and that's perfectly fine. Which is what made those kind of commentaries so stupid. There will always be people in the US who DO love soccer, but there will always be more people who love NFL, so what. Hockey is Canada's most popular sport by a long shot, but not every Canadian loves hockey, I'm Canadian and I hate it. We're not all identical robots, and that's a good thing! |

What a funny topic - women not understanding or liking predominantly male sports - erm no suprises there then I guess. As for the Anthem, she's pregnant isn't she, doesn't that scramble female brains? |
Archies Slave wrote: What a funny topic - women not understanding or liking predominantly male sports - erm no suprises there then I guess. As for the Anthem, she's pregnant isn't she, doesn't that scramble female brains? Yeah, true. Women are such simple, silly asses. Why would they want to watch something or have the ability to understand something that other women weren't involved in? I guess men understand and like sports so much because of their deep interest in watching other men jump around in tight pants and shorts? I'm pretty progressive myself so I support all men who love men. Go civil unions! And, yes, you hit it dead on. Actually, I've heard most pregnant women are declared legally retarded, too. |
I love college football. I loved Green Bay as a child, due to my mother's influence, but I prefer college ball to pros any day of the week. Jerry's World is 45 minutes from our house. We've been to a couple of college games there, but avoid it otherwise. My alma mater is considered to have the most storied college (American) football program in the US, per numerous sources. I have 33 of the 37 books that have been written about our program, the others are out of print and I am still searching. The first of four DVDs detailing the history of our football was released this fall - and I bought a copy for each member of our family. We have a park area with statues of four of the five Heisman trophy winners - Sam's couldn't be started until he graduated, so it is under construction now. We have 4 coaches who have over a 100 victories each and the first two of them had statues unveiled this past fall. It was great to see their families and hear some of the stories from their children (who are now grandparents!). My kids grew up watching tapes of the '77 game against tOSU. By the age of ten, they knew what play was coming next. They were hooked. We have season tickets and love going to the game. I'll stop now. But I wonder if any of you know what program I am talking about? |
I loved the Dark Vader commercial it was my favorite!!! |
Sorry this post is late, I've been brooding for the past few weeks. Like Dawn, my husband is not a fan of spectator sports. He loves hunting, fishing, camping and living history events.....pretty much anything outdoors. I have been a huge football ( STEELERS ) fan since I was about 6. I grew up playing games of pick-up football, had knee surgery at 16 to reconnect my knee after stupidly deciding to play a game on ice-skates on our local pond. The guy I really disliked at the time.....and later married, plus 4 of our friends slid across the ice on my knee ( it was a darn good catch if I must say so myself ). I'm talking about the football and the guy I really didn't like....we've been married almost 35 years : hearts: |
