http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_winter_weather I am just watching for the BIG BLIZZARD!!!! How is everyone else doing ???????? |
|
We're just getting rain and possibly tornados. Darn it. |
Is Heart waiting with baited breath to romp around in the snow? We are being warned this storm may come as far north as Ottawa, but I'm not worried. I have never seen workplaces close here because of snow. |
There's a high chance of snow here this week, but snow here means.... a flurry came down, so... I'm not too excited. It's so dang windy outside though! |
It's horrid here too. But my dogs are SO EXCITED! |
The storm is heading right for us, and in the newspaper this morning they are warning us all to be prepared for the big blizzard. It is expected to start sometime today and will continue on into tomorrow. I have already made my storm food.....homemade stew for dinner tonight and my homemade chili for lunch tomorrow. |
We are getting a bit of snow now, but being warned that is coming through the night. My principal at the high school (which never closes) emailed all the staff saying 'chances are high the outer school doors will be locked tomorrow" back to bed I'll go! Oh wait, another day home with Howie, no chance of sleeping in! We'll see the new reporters get me all excited for a snow day and then...nothing. Hope everyone is safe with this weather though..tornados, ice rain and cancelled flights don't sound good. peg |
I can't wait! Everyone at work is already talking like there's NO way we'll have work tomorrow and that's always awesome. I have a 4 wheel drive vehicle so I love driving in the snow. I'm hoping it's terrible and everyone stays home except the grocery store because that's what I need to do tomorrow! |
see this type? Its green with envy!!! |
Ours was kind of disappointing. Only about 10 inches of snow I had yesterday off as a regularly scheduled day off (when it snowed all day), so quite pretty outside, did some house chores, ate brownies, filled bird feeders, played with the dogs... We did cancel obedience classes, as the wind was supposed to pick up. It sort of did, but NOTHING like it can in the open flatness of southern MN. And today I drove through my unplowed roads, bucked a few drifts, and made it to work at the usual time....nothing too exciting. Now the sun is out, and it's again blindingly bright with all this new glittery snow! I see the storm has kind of broke into two chunks - out in NY and also a big blob in the southern midwest. Hope you all get a non-event like us We are supposed to be cold tonight - -8F and -35 to -40F windchills, but thats pretty normal here too. |
Get those cameras out, people! We expect some sheepies-in-the snow pics!!!! Its snowing like crazy at my house...but that wont stop or close down anything here We are thinking of going sledding later though! |
NO WAY AM I TELLING DREAM AND DUFFY ABOUT THE SNOW THEY ARE PANTING HERE IN FL IT IS IN THE 70'S |
Coz and Heart just love getting all icy and then coming in and leaning on me!!! I am very worried about when Pearl go out. I have seen her slip on the patio and even the ice covered grass... Everyone...keep safe and warm...I am sitting here, enjoying the fire, watching the puppers zone out..very relaxing...very calm...maybe I'll take a little nap!!!!! |
I'm with you Val! We are getting about an inch of snow an hour. Started about 6:30 this morning. We had a light icing yesterday, but nothing too bad. Thankfully I'm working from home today! We started with grass this morning...this was taken a few hours ago: Oliver and Lucy are resting for a big romp later: It's hard to get any work done. All 3 of us are snuggled up on the couch. Oliver pressed a key on my laptop and now I can't get any of my numbers to work... More to come of the romping! |

We had about 4 inches this morning. That was the appetizer. The real snow starts about midnight EST tonight. We're getting conflicting reports, depending on which weather service you listen to. Some say as little as 8 inches, while others say as much as 22 inches. I've already told my boss that I may work from home tomorrow. I just don't feel like dealing with all the idiots who don't know how to drive in snow. |
We are also getting conflicting reports here in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Yesterday, we were supposed to be getting LESS than the city (10 inches to the city's 21 inches), which is rare, but now they are saying we might also be in that 20 plus inch range. UGH. Just gives the hubby more ammo for a move to Florida. (Suze, got room for two adults and one very high maintenance sheepdog???? ) We are also looking at 50 mile-an-hour winds, which just adds to the ambiance. Oscar loves to pee into the wind. I don't mind a reasonable amount of snow, but this much? I am not a fan. Mark, don't know how you folks in Syracuse and Buffalo do it. And Dawn, in Minnesota, plus all of the lovely Canadians? My hat is off..... Laurie and Oscar, The Windy Pi$$er |
Oh Oscar, you need to learn don't pee into the wind....Todd says HE learned that as a small boy! Chewie's wind hobby is a bit different - he loves to face into it and make his air blow, very much like a Farrah Fawcett immitator He LOVES the wind, crazy dog |
Awww...Chewie....***that would drive HEART crazy!!!!! Messing her hair????? NEVER!!!!!!!! |

We had just a dusting of snow here in Boulder but the temperature is minus 5 so I took Maggie and Henry to daycare to spend the day. Too cold to go to the park. |
Freezing rain here. So now our 6" of snow is about 4" of frozen snow/ice. It let up a bit during today but has started back up again & is supposed to be worse tonight than last night. No handling class as the kennel club cancels when the school system closes. Wed. should be interesting. We have obedience & depending on the amount of ice they get there & I have here will determine if we can make it there. I'd rather have the snow than the ice. My 2 younger ones are OK with it yet but it's been a very difficult winter for my old guy & now this slippery stuff. I have to go outside with him each time in case he can't navigate on it. One good thing tho'.....he figured out that it's a pain in the butt & when he's out he better do everything in 1 trip |
Weather reports here are exactly what you described Marilyn... The malls are closed. The hockey game cancelled. All the restaurants where we have OUR restaurants are CLOSED (MickyD's, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, ALL of them CLOSED) but NOT US!!!!! Hopefully we will get some good business!!!!! Dreading to see what tomorrow is like too!!!!! |
Looked at the radar again, it's really swirling and growing. The tip looks like it is trying to head up this way, but it's not forcasted to....but it will be close! The part that broke off after we got it yesterday is already out to NY and going out to sea! Todd just texted me at work that he plowed the driveway out (hope that didn't curse us) and he said "there was lots of snow"...lol |
I already got my snow day called for tomorrow so I don't care if it snows or not! |
Expecting 40 mph gusts tonight and single digit temps. Then tomorrow snow tapering off maybe total accumulation 6-10 inches with more 40 mph gusts. I'll believe it when I see it. A lot of hype for not much........so far. Well, just told "mail call" so at least PO is out and about. |
Whoa! Chicago is crazy right now! My boss sent me home and court has been called off tomorrow. I do have to go in eventually though :/ We planned on taking the dogs out to play, but it is pretty crazy out there and I don't want the wind to blow little Marley away |
We're pretty quiet here in NE WI, had some snow this morning even tho the weather report said we weren't getting any, if we get any tonight or tomorrow it will be minor. More worried about the winds. My kids are all down around Milw, worry about them. |
The wind they predicted to start yesterday evening is just starting now. I think it's because the storm cell is only about 100 miles from us and swirling, sucking in air. We are going to -F temps tonight, so what perfect timing... But, we warm to the 20's by Friday! tropical |
Still getting conflicting reports on snow amounts. I'm pretty sure I'll work from home tomorrow. We're up to 118 inches so far this year. |
We are crippled here downstate NY with ice! Mark, hate to tell you but its coming your way with major snow! I think they are expecting up to two feet of snow your way! I rather have the snow than the ice. A sheet of ice is covering everything. Driving is terrible, there was a 12 car pile up out by me, and even walking is a hazard. I could hardly get the dogs out in the yard. The deck was iced and they were slipping and sliding just to pee! I had to grab on to the side of the house just to walk the dogs out there... And tonight is expected to get even worse. Bring me the snow! At least its pretty and I can walk on it without breaking anything! |

Normally he goes out by himself in the dog run. But it is so icy I need to go out with him on lead & have already had to help him up when his feet slid out from under him. Poor old guy! |
Want to see what it is like here? Just watch Mike & Mike on ESPiN in the morning. They set up a nice set in Sundance Square (Fort Worth), in preparation for the Super Bowl. They have now put up clear plastic around the set, heaters by the broadcaster's feet. And it is supposed to be colder tomorrow - single digits. We got enough sleet last night that it looks like snow out there. DFW airport was shut down because they couldn't use cherry pickers to de-ice the planes - 40 to 50 mph winds. And no Super Fans arriving for several hours. MN and WI loaned us snow plows as part of the emergency preparation for the Super Bowl. DFW is so big, they really didn't do much other than get the teams to practice. Hard to believe we were up to 75 last week, for several days. No school tomorrow! I'm going to hate makeup days in June.. |
I'm really hoping we get TONS of snow here... a huge major storm would be awesome. I love snow, love playing in it, love driving in it, love that my work will be dead so I can just read a book and then go play in the snow later LOL Sadly though I don't think my area will get much.... I do have a massive headache from the pressure dropping though so that kind of sucks. |
Mom of 3 wrote: MN and WI loaned us snow plows as part of the emergency preparation for the Super Bowl. So THAT"S where are snow plows are!! Because they sure as heck aren't here! Oh, well, at least it's for a good cause by cheesehead standards. Wisconsin & Illiniois have issued states of emergency. The dogs, who normally love this kind of weather, are no longer asking to be let out. When I open my backdoor the snow and wind hits you like a wall, whips you back and takes your breath away. The good news is that with all that blowing I don't have to shovel a potty spot. Parts of the dog yard are almost bare in spots, in others there are three foot drifts. Belle got disoriented not even ten feet away from the back door and I had to dash out and guide her in. Hm. At least I don't have to go to work tomorrow. Just as well. I have no idea where my driveway is Kristine |
Mine are still going out, although opening the door out to the dog yard is getting dangerous - to the north and into the wind. Thank goodness we built the dog yard in the space between the house and the windbreak...and thank goodness we planted all those thousands of little trees 20 years ago so we actually HAVE a windbreak! I too have big bare spots, and then huge drifts. I had a very interesting drive down my gravel road d/t to hard drifts coming home late tonight after agility class. Turned off the VSA and gunned it! Todd plowed out the yard today, and thanks to the windbreaks, it still was perfectly clear once I made it to the driveway. And I sadly have to be at work by 7am |
My major complaint in all this is how wet the dogs keep getting. Bear and Owen just want to lay outside and let snow drift up on them. Clyde is smart enough to think they're insane and he's curled up on the couch. |
Sing along..."Oh the weather outside is frightful" I don't remember ever seeing this before. High winds, heavy snow=blizzard. I think they pulled the snowplows off until later, or they are down in Dallas. Everything is closed tomorrow...everything except for work. Yep, when you work in a hospital you better get your butt to work, no excuses. If you feel like it will be impossible for you to GET there, don't leave. My employer is A) putting up anyone who can't make it home and B)putting up anyone who worries about making it to work in the morning. The dogs DID NOT WANT TO GO OUT! When we finally convinced them to go, poor Simon had to lift his leg really high to get over the snow. Gar came in and shook and the snow was flying...in the house I told dh I was turning the heat up for now(it goes down after 10:00pm), just in case... I will try to get pictures later...when the winds and snow die down, right now its just a mess out there. |
I have never seen anything like this. Drifts in the yard are up to the top of the 4 ft fence, beyond that there are "peaks" in the yard that must be twice that. Still have my windswept potty ground for the dogs, though, so that's good. The wind and snow have slowed down considerably - but that's all relative because it still almost knocks me off my feet when I open the back door. Another hour or so and it will be light and I'll try to take pictures. Dogs are less reluctant to go out. Five minutes out there and they are snow covered and pretty much soaked. Pam - how on earth are you going to get to work? All of our roads have been deemed impassable, including the interstate. Both my van and the wagon are, as best I can tell, gone. I can see a corner of the wagon so I know it's still there, but that's all. Gonna be fun digging out of this one. Val - how are you guys doing in MO? Kristine |
I'll trade places with all you guys at any time. No snow here just freezing rain. Right now it is 43 degrees outside. How in the "H" can it be freezing??????? We have chipped away at & shoveled ice off the brick that is the 1st part of the dog run. We can keep up with that using pet-safe icemelt & sand. But the gravel dog run is now 4" of solid ice. I can prove that because the lumber that frames the perimeter to keep the gravel inside the fence is exposed that much above the base under normal conditions & right now you can't see ANY of it. Dogs went out at 8PM last night & did their business. At 10PM , their last time out before settling in for the night, they walked outside, everyone of them lost their footing & turned around & came back in without so much as letting loose a drop!!!!! My biggest worry was Isaac as he's on Pred right now for this arthritis. Figured I'd wake up to a lake in his kennel this AM. The dogs woke me up at 5:30AM to go out & José & Mariah made it 4 feet from the house before they started to slip & slide. They decided to pee there. I geared up (winter coat, Yak Trax, lead for Isaac & towel to use as a sling if needed) to take Isaac out. Gentleman that he is he won't go near the house. Insists on going to the one corner farthest away in the upper run to go. Always has. It took 3 trips outside with me spreading a path of sand all the way to that particular spot to get him to go. I have no other option as I can't get him up to the upper level to go out onto the driveway. Why oh why can't he go on the nice huge ice pile (no more snow piles here) right outside the left side of the door? Or even on the snow shovel? |
Ugh, Marilyn Yes, ice is worse. Belle also feels compelled to relieve herself as far away from the house as possible. Then she'd get disoriented in the snow and wind and I'd have to run out and guide her in. Miserable for the seniors. Kristine |
Well that fizzled out. We only got 3-4 inches of snow. It is heavy and kind of granular. I was looking to stay home today. Guess that's out of the question. |
Well, I just watched Jim slide backwards down the driveway 3 times. He can get up to about 20 feet from the top & that's it. He just drug a garbage can of Oil Dry from the second garage up to the house & is now spreading it at the top of the drive hoping he can get out. My boss just called & told me to stay home. He said it's a mess outside & he didn't think anyone was coming to the office or plant today. Temp has dropped from 43 degrees at 5:30AM to 37 degrees at 8:30AM. it's supposed to get down into the low 20's today so I suppose all this that has fallen as sleet & melted will now refreeze. It is sleeting now. And now it is snowing. What an absolute mess. |
Mark, I would rather have 3-4 inches of snow and have to go to work than be stuck at home with about 18 inches of snow and 6-7 foot drifts. Wind gusts of 40-50 mph and impassable roads. The snow is diminishing and for the next 36 hours there will be dangerous wind chills (20 to 40 BELOW ZERO). I hate wind and fear losing power. I too work in a hospital but am not essential (i.e., not clinical). The president/CEO and many physicians, nurses and other staff spent the night at the hospital so patient care could continue (the president/CEO did it just because it looks good--obviously he doesn't provide patient care). Elective surgeries and procedures have been cancelled. I hope everyone stays safe and warm. This does make for good snowshoeing conditions this weekend though. |
OK, clearly I have nothing better to do (literally, in addition to the state of emergency we are now under a civil danger emergency, which I'd never heard of before) Some pics, doesn't capture the wind or snow we had overnight, which is still going on to a much lesser extent, but a look at the changed landscape. The dogs, who would normally be running around and playing in this kind of weather, still seem to be in shock: Brrr. Kristine |
Kristine~~ If you could have put some lights and a wreath on the tree, you would have had your 2011 Christmas Card!!!!!! Looks VERY Currier and Ives~~ We are all doing good here. The bulk of the snow expected missed our (mine and Judi's) area, but we still got alot. Roads are not good yet ~But since I am 4 blocks from work, I decided to take my chances and come into work .. Stay warm and safe EVERYONE!!!!!!! |
Oh wow! In Chicago things are a MESS! Dave got up and went to work (he walks to the train) at 5:30am... he said he's the only one there for his work. He works at the board of trade and the market opening was delayed! We walked for 2 hours last night before it got really bad and it was a blast... not sure if the dogs will enjoy it today (I'm sure they will), but we will trek out in a bit. I will be waiting until they plow the streets to walk to work... I'm not walking a mile in 2 feet of snow! |
Kristine: They may be in shock but at least they can move! Pretty pictures tho'. |
Great pictures! We got a lot of snow and it's still snowing, but it's nothing we wouldn't normally see here in Ottawa. I was late to work though, not because of traffic, just because I had to play with Mady in the snow, she's LOVES it! |
Just heard from my daughter in Waukesha, she and my other two kids are all home from work thank goodness. They all work at places that do not close for anything but this time they did. She said he has big drifts all around her house and she lives on a hilly street so seems like they get it that much worse. Yesterday she got 2 roof rakes and she and her daughter are going to be doing that today too. The other night she was out on a ladder using her ice scraper from the car trying to get as much off as she could. We only had some flurries and a little wind so very fortunate, so many people stranded by this storm it has to be a nightmare. |
Wow, Kristine, that's cool! And glad I'm not there! Windy still here, but not like last night where it howled. Most of the snow has been blown away except in protected areas. That might be my snow Kristine! Temp is currently 1 degree, balmy by what the rest of you are going to have......but the biggie is the furnace didn't go on all night! So a nice 50 inside when I got up. After calling repairman and getting on their schedule for today, it came on......but it took 6 attempts to finally fire. Electric start. So wonder if gas pressure was too low? None of the other gas appliances kicked off. Everyone stay safe and warm. |
I don't think Dallas wil ever get the Super Bowl again! Though the rest of the country is in the same boat and not doing much better. The idiots in charge of DART (our train system from the burbs to central Dallas) decided not to run the trains all night Monday, too expensive. Except the rails froze as did the overhead powerlines. So very limited service yesterday. They have no reputation left after this on top of the OU/Texas game fiasco two years ago (they advertised their service heavily, not enough trains and people were arriving during the second half of the game). The train between Fort Worth and Dallas couldn't run do to ice. The snowplows had nothing to do since the issue was ice. There are a bunch of trucks out, sanding and resanding. Kudos on the High Five (a huge five level highway interchange) - it was clear. A friend has been working on the roads since Monday afternoon - hasn't been home yet. No snow yet. Can't see the grass for the ice. Even the 4 month old Golden has figured out not to run on the ice. Good thing is they are out and back in quickly, with fairly dry feet. The ice is mostly yellow as there is nothing for the pee to soak into - and it is freezing quickly as it is 14 degrees out (high will be 19). They have started mandatory rolling blackouts across the state. My son had three at work this morning. The public is grousing - saying that they bet the teams aren't experiencing blackouts. And the players were complaining about the temperature in the stadium yesterday - too cold. It was because they are still bringing in equipment for the game and the doors had to stay open - carbon monoxide, anyone? At least I can take a nap - four dogs and two cats to keep me warm. |
Well, my dog yard looks pretty much the same as Kristines....so no need for me to take pictures! OK, I have less OES and more hounds, but the snow vs bare areas are nearly identical. Our county has a no plowing after dark policy, so it was a drifty drive on my 2 miles of gravel after I got off the 4 lane last night after class. Of course it was still dark when I left for work this morning, so I went the 1 mile gravel route that actually is a longer total drive....I BARELY made it through. Those drifts are packed so hard with the wind, felt like I was hitting walls instead of snow. BUt, I gunned it and momentum won! Just a bit cold (-3F) and windchill -30F...but it felt normal by now...sadly. And that 2nd wave that hit WI and Chicago and all points east almost came up and got us - SO close! About 40 miles from us The 10 inches we got already the day before was just perfect |
Who else got thunder and lightning last night? Awesome! |
Now it is snowing here. They just called & canceled our obedience class this evening. Make up is Friday evening. I had a hair appt. this afternoon. Called to cancel it but the beauty shop is closed anyway. Put a big pot of chili on to simmer & homemade broccoli cheese soup is next! No sense me taking pictures of the dog run. No drifitng just a solid sheet of 5" ice. And if the dogs were in the picture they'd all be laying flat on the ground like frogs! |
ButtersStotch wrote: Who else got thunder and lightning last night? Awesome! I heard about that on the news! Crazy! We got 12-15 inches here. The interstate between Kansas City and St. Louis was even closed last night, that's never happened before! No streets clear yet, so my poor car would drag bottom if I tried to even get out...no thank you. Oliver and Lucy have never seen this much snow, and it is frigid out; 8 is the high for today, but with windchill it feels like -12. Hubby and I cleared the driveway off while Oliver and Lucy played chase. They don't like the deep snow either, the driveway makes a much better play area! |

I lived in Syracuse for years and I remember getting five feet of snow in a long afternoon and things didn't get shut down like this. We only got a little over 20", geez. It's the blowing and these &^%$ prairies. The wind roared all night long. It took out a window in my (unheated) sunroom, which is now covered with several inches of snow. Perhaps I should rename it the snow room. I suppose I need to go out there to see if things can be salvaged because at this rate it won't be melting till April. At least the dogs will have a covered snow area to play in if it comes to that Jill, downtown Chigago got the thunder snow so I got to watch it on the news. I saw it on the radar just south of the WI border, but if it hit us, I wouldn't have heard it over the wind anyway. They've tentatively reopened the freeway between Milwaukee and the IL border, but they're still telling people to stay home. They've plowed the county road outside my house - it's a main and usually very busy thoroughfare - several times and it's now reasonably passable, but hardly a vehicle goes by except the plows. The abandoned trucks in ditches within walking distance of me - if I could wade through the snow drifts of what was once my driveway; it's going to take a front loader to clear it - are still there. I did finally manage to get the front door open and squeezed out so I could shovel off my front stoop at least. Two hours later it's all pretty much blown back. Hopeless. They're saying 18-20 hours to dig out. Think it's time for a nap. zzzzzzzzzzzz Kristine |
Un-friggin-believable. Paula, you pretty much described it here. At least it stopped snowing.......though the wind is fierce. Unlike lucky Kristine and Dawn, I have all of the drifts, and none of the open space. Hubby had to snowblow for two hours before we could even get Oscar out the garage door to pee at 5 a.m., as there was a solid wall of snow greeting us when we opened the door. Our front door and back slider are impassible, with drifts ranging from 4 - 6 feet. My driveway is a solid 4 feet of blowing, drifting snow. We are on a golf course, so lots and lots of open space and absolutely no wind blocks of any kind, unless you count our house. The plow guys can't even get here. (Our driveway is extremely dangerous to use a snowblower on, as it is very long and slopes at a pretty steep angle.) And of course, I have the dog with OCD. This is a dog who comes to a screeching halt in the garage if the garbage bin isn't where it usually sits. Mom, why aren't we going out the back door like we always do? Mom, why aren't we going to my usual potty spots? Woman, you KNOW I just can't pee ANYWHERE!!! We have been out four times already this morning, and he is refusing to go doo-doo because WE ARE NOT IN HIS NORMAL DOO-DOO SPOT! (sigh). At this point, I wish I could convince him to go in the house! Stay safe everyone. Mark, I'm glad you folks did not get hammered. I think you have suffered enough this winter. Laurie and Oscar, Who Will Just Have To Suck It Up and Go Doo-Doo! |

We were soo lucky! That's actually what I thought it was at first, too. There's a power line behind us and over a few houses that seems to go down in every heavy storm so when I first saw the flash, I thought "Oh, !@#$, we're going to lose power," and then the thunder rolled in. The dogs were so confused. Thunder in the winter must feel different to them than thunder in the summer! |
Sometimes I wish we could get hammered. Our DPW crews are too good. It takes a real blizzard, like the Bizzards of 1993 and 1966 to cause a hiccup. It takes, like, 45 inches in 24 hours to cause problems in CNY. Kristine, I didn't know you lived in Syracuse. Whereabouts? Mom of 3, Rolling blackouts? Really? Why? |
Around here we call it "thunder snow"...and I love it! Not that we get it that often, as it's usually too cold. |

We had it the first night of the storm....Sunday? Suddenly all the dogs were plastered against to the door to be let in. In heard it from inside, DH was out with the dogs. Wow, just peeked at shrubs near my window here. They look black....frozen. Lots of gardening to do this spring. |
In answer to your question Kristine on how I was going to get to work...I am OFF TODAY!!! I would have been pretty hard just to get out of the driveway even in fourwheel. I think, no I know I would have gotten stuck Thats not a ruler stuck in the snow...its a yardstick. I think there's a driveway there, somewhere. It took dh and I hours to clear most of it to let the cars get in and OUT. This is another pic of our "driveway" I'm trying to get a reindeer out of the snow into the house...notice the packers sign. You can also see the part of the driveway and the ups and downs of drifts. This is the backyard, that little gray thing you see sticking out right next to the house is our air conditioner And the dogs I forgot that Simon attacks the shovel and I was trying to shovel a path for them and he couldn't get to the shovel and he bit me on the back of the leg . I yelped and turned around and he KNEW he did wrong, he was crouched on the ground. |
Laugh away, folks. It's either laugh at Oscar's silliness, or strangle him. Hmmmmmmmmm....... On the plus side, hubby cleared out the 4 foot drift blocking our back door and made us a little path. And we have........ drum roll please..........doo doo! Oscar still wasn't happy that it wasn't his EXACT location, but I think he was probably getting a little desperate. (He gets fed four times a day.) So I guess I don't have to strangle him just yet. Laurie and Oscar, Lucky to be Alive |

Laurie and Oscar, Lucky to be Alive I never laugh because I totally get it. Bear will only walk certain paths in the house, he gets upset if we move furniture, too, and if any of this gets messed up, or he encounters an obstacle, he either shuts down or plows you down (if you're in his path in the house). I left the vacuum cleaner by the stairs the other night and it took 20 minutes to get him to come upstairs to go to bed. Oddly, he has no hangups outside, just inside, though. Thank goodness! |
Jill, unreal, isn't it? Oscar is very particular about things in the house too. He likes everything to remain where it lands the first time. If not, it must be sniffed from top to bottom, to ensure that it is not dangerous. (Next stop, the Twilight Zone. Just saw a Komondor run across my tv in a Pedigree ad. ) The garage always presents a problem. It's huge, a mess, and falls under hubby's responsibilities, so not quite as organized as the house. If A.G. adds something to a shelf, Oscar has to check it out before we can continue our walk. Bear and Oscar are "brothers from a different mother". Laurie |
Oh, the walk thing reminded me of another fun oddity: as soon as I get the leashes out, Bear runs upstairs and hides. But if we leave without him, he cries. Sometimes, when I'm thinking, I gate off the upstairs and he hides under the table. As soon as I click the leash on, he's fine and ready to go but the whole process is always ridiculous. I find comfort knowing that someone else has a mentally unbalanced dog. |
Take heart, Jill. You are not alone on the "doggy crazy train". Oscar doesn't mind a walk, he just disappears when I get out the dog booties. Laurie and Oscar |
I think what makes it even crazier (and I know you can relate) is their size + the crazy. A small crazy dog is funny. A big crazy dog barreling into you because you're in his path because he can ONLY go that way is hilarious and dangerous at the same time. |
CamVal1 wrote: It takes a real Mom of 3, Rolling blackouts? Really? Why? The ice storm, with snow due tomorrow night, has shut down travel in a large portion of Texas. That means more people at home, more places needing heat and using various appliances. The electric grid is stressed and the gas pipelines are having trouble moving gas fast enough. To protect the power grid, all of the major cities in Texas were doing rolling blackouts. Various sections of the cities would have their power cut off for 15 to 45 minutes at a time. No warning, it would just go off. Power surges as it comes back on. They stopped the blackouts at 6 PM, but expect them again Thursday. My son's office lost power every hour for 15 minutes. It took another 10 minutes to get up and running - a worthless day. |
OK, it can warm up now. The furnace man got here at 6:30 pm, long day for him. The pump for the condenser was plugged (with beetle wing caps!?) So warm house this a.m...... But now no water......the pump or water lines are frozen! It is -11 out right now, told DH a 60 watt bulb in the pump house would not be enough heat for sub zero temps, he poopooed me. He's never been here in sub zero weather before, always managed to be out of town with work. So now, he and his cane can carry the oil heater out to the pump house all by themselves!! Warm weather better come soon! This house is not made for sub zero stuff |

It takes, like, 45 inches in 24 hours to cause problems in CNY. Kristine, I didn't know you lived in Syracuse. Whereabouts? Fairmount area. My folks still live there. I was home for Christmas. And yes I miss the DPW crews...... A LOT Finally got my drive dug out this morning (Dawn must be relieved - she's had to listen to me piss and moan about it ) And, yes, it took a front end loader to do it. Once I got a clear enough path for the van I booked out of there. No idea if the wagon will be making an appearance before spring Kristine |
Mad Dog wrote: Fairmount area. My folks still live there. I was home for Christmas. No kidding. I grew up in Solvay and I also lived in Camillus. What street in Fairmount? I lived on Richards Rd. in Camillus (off of Hinsdale Rd.) before I moved to St. Louis. Did you bring your dogs with you when you came home? Should have got a hold of me. Brick & I would have went to the dogpark in Longbranch with you. Look me up the next time you come in. And now, back to the thread. |
Geez. Small world. Jane Drive. And, yes, I had the dogs with me and the younger ones were going out of their minds. Will let you know next time they're in town. KB |
