I have used the ProPlan Large Breed formulas(chicken and rice) for many years with no issues. My dogs do very well on it. I just recently switched my adults to the ProPlan Large Breed Shredded Blend.....they absolutely love it. |
Ugh. Oscar has IBD, and can only eat Nature's Recipe Venison and Rice, so I live in constant fear of a recall or an outage. I buy ridiculous amounts of his canned food, and keep about a month's worth at any given time. (Oscar cannot have beef, bison, chicken, duck, lamb, or fish as a protein source.) A few years back, Oscar was eating Natural Balance Venison/Rice and doing well on it, until they had a recall. Wellness had a version, but it was too rich for him. We ended up with Nature's Recipe, which, to me, is the lowest quality of the venison/rice products out there, but if it works, it works. (Natural Balance came back on the market with their venison dog food, except they mixed it with sweet potato, which caused Oscar to have tummy issues.) From my experience with Oscar, once we found a protein source that worked, we were better off sticking with that protein source, as opposed to keeping the same brand and looking at a different product within that brand. Are you feeding Nutro Lamb and Rice, and they are doing fine? If so, and this issue comes up again, you're probably better off changing to a different brand of lamb and rice dog food, as opposed to sticking with the brand and changing the protein source. Brick has been on Pro Plan since he was born and has always done excellent on it. I give him the weight management formula and I've been able to keep his weight right around 58 lbs +/- 2 pounds. I was looking at the new shredded kind, but I wasn't sure if I should switch him. |
I feed ProPlan Lamb & Rice also. Generally have no problem getting it but in a pinch ProPlan Sensitive Skin & Stomach will work. Salmon based & recipe is for sensitive intestinal tracts so it should work . |
We use the Pro Plan shredded chicken on Mady and have had no issues at all with it. She likes it, and poops are good! |
We used the ProPlan shredded forever, then switched back to the chunks for Banker. This way they are all on the same food, which is awesome. |
London was alllergic to pro plan back in rochester--- he was fine on it for several months then his ears flared out. We switched to prairie (natures' variety) (they sell it at country max in spencerport - very cheap... they also sell canidae and nutro there) - they were on it for almost 3 years until we moved to California where london/tony's ears, back and paws became all yeasty. Vet thinks the food reacts differently in different states. Switched to Canidae and now on merrick--- so far, so good. |
