Licking her paws in reference to what. Is it after being outside? Do you have snow where you are. Oliver licks his paws after being outside because there is snow and ice inbetween his pads. This is totally normal. Is she licking the tops of them ? This could be a sign of allergies. Is her paw pads cracking ? They could be sore. Traci |
Hudson has food allergies, and it makes his pads itchy. He licks them like there is no tomorrow and they get a stained, reddish brown. Long after the itchies are gone the colour stays...until we shave him. He also gets ear infections as another effect of his allergies. We were keeping him completely off beef and chicken and wheat. He eats turkey and barley dog food, and has been good...no treats to start, but now we do veggie only "holistic" (I choke a little when I think of that ridiculous word), treats. It's only because of the ingredients, and no matter how much the lady who sells them at the pet store may tell me they are tasty and I should try one, I will not...but I digress. When Hudson stole a chicken breast he didn't react, so I'm thinking chicken may not be the issue. When he stole a raw strip loin from the counter, he exploded with allergies. I'd look into allergies/sensitivities. It's not really a big deal to switch foods, and limit something...beats the itchies, and the prednisone and ear infection treatments we were stuck with until we figured it out. |
Couldn't tell where you are but if there is snow on the ground and the roads are salted or de iced in some way, that could cause the licking. Road salt/de icing stuff is hazadous on paws and makes them dry, itchy and can bleed... |
Hi, We are from Sydney and no snow here.. Usually after our walk or after she ran whole day.. Does it have anything to do with her age. She just turned one? Regards, Johnson |
Is it very hot? If she is walking on pavement her paws could be getting slightly burned and irritated. If the pavement is too hot for your feet, its too hot for theirs so be sure to feel the blacktop or whatever before your walks. No, itchy feet shouldn't have to do with her age. Could be allergies...have her paws been wet and not fully dried? Sometimes yeast infection between the toes. Have you used anything new on the floor? new carpet? new cleaning stuff? Could be allergy to something environmental or food... Sometimes sprinkling corn startch between "toes" and on pads will help. Makes for a bit of a messy house though! |
Hi there, this is often sign of allergies of some kind (which can be seasonal as well). If it keeps happening, a vet visit would be in order. |
