Mulligan is at the groomer

Oh boy, this was not a good scene.

I brought Mulligan to the groomer today, which is an all day affair.
As I handed him over he was a little apprehensive, but he went along, then when he went into his cage he just freaked out.

He was shaking and barking and digging at the cage floor with both paws. 8O I stuck my hand in rubbed him a bit and talked to him, but he didn't settle. The groomer came over and he quieted down for a little.

This groomer has taken care of our dogs for 12 years now, I guess, and she tells me that he doesn't behave like this for long, that he settles right down. Normally, she doesn't put our dogs into the cage until after we go, now I guess I know why.

sigh.....

Sounds like leaving your kids with a sitter, they cry and carry on til you leave :D Hope Mulligan doesn't stay upset and will want to go back.
Is Mr Mulligan back yet? How is he doing? Poor boy... sounds like a little separation anxiety maybe? Or maybe he just doesn't like the crate- perhaps from his previous pre-adopted life? Did you ask the groomer if he does that all of the time when he goes?

B.T.W. is he very handsome and fluffy now?

Karen :)
He was just a little nervous knowing you were leaving.
My bet is he had a great day at the dayspa with the groomer.
All that love and attention and getting a new haircut.
Then home to Mom and Dad for more love and attention.
Its a great life !!!
Mulligan pictures please !!!

I asked and she told me that he calms down after a bit. He is crate trained, goes in and out on command and will lie in there on his own on occasion, usually when he is pouting that Joan isn't around.

Nope, shaved for the summer!

Sure hope you're right...

:P They don't make cameras fast enough to catch him... but I'll try for some more.

Actually, I think that it's partly his normal over excitement at things, but also Joan has been away since Sunday, and he was just getting over pouting about that for 3 days, when suddenly I'm abandoning him... :(
Awww poor boy... it does sound very much like leaving a toddler with a sitter, temper tantrum for a few minutes and then they usually settle. It always makes a person feel horrible though...lol..
Poor Mulligan. Has he recovered yet or does he played it for all it's worth like my Nab would?
The groomer tells us that he was, no surprise, extremely hyperactive. This was probebly her way of explaining why she did such a lousy job this time.

The hair is not shaved down as much as I wanted -- I suppose that's a matter of communication-- but he's got a lion's head thing almost going on, and I specifically asked her to just "leave a little of the white". the hari on his ears is very thick, and she didn't thin that much, he probably still has 3 or 3 1/2 inches on them.

On his chest, which is white, there are patches shaved and patches that have 3/4 of an inch. There should be some hair over all the pink skin. The legs are uneven going from 3/8 to 1" sporadically.

I am NOT a HappieCamper with these results today.

But Mullie has improved in spirits since Joan returned from her trip. Unfortunately, she's on the raod locally today, so he's off moping... (OK, it looks like sleeping at the moment).
Poor Mullie, it sounds like I did his haircut!

Did the groomer seem sorry, do you get to go back and have her fix it for no charge. In human world they do that at haircut places :? I have know idea how this stuff kind of stuff works, but i was slightly mad that you got a bum deal, especially with summer going up.

Shannon
That's too bad it didn't turn out as you had hoped. I think that's why I prefer to just shave right down. You don't have to worry about it being uneven, it is faster and less stressful on the dog since there is no tugging or pulling whatsoever. Just zoom zoom. After only a couple of weeks Dancer already has about 3/4 of an inch of coat back. I wish I still had a digital camera...lol... then I could take some new pics as her coat growth progresses, it's even faster this time.
Poor Mulligan! And I admire you for keeping your cool. If I would have gone to pick up Drez and she looked like that, it would have been all out war right then and there! She's a professional, and it's not like she hasn't groomed sheepies before. And I would have a hard time believing that Mulligan is the only dog that she groomed who was hyper. Sorry - in my book, there's no excuse for this.

The good news is that he'll grow out and in a few months you won't even notice the length difference. Also gives you time to find another groomer.

Chris
So sorry to hear Mulligan was not in a grooming mood...an experienced
groomer could manage that issue.
I agree with the other members who posted that the groomer
should fix it for no charge. Sorry you had this disappointing
experience with the groomer.
Ron,

Did you take him to Lancaster? I really got bad vibes from her.

I do all of Max's cutting now because I'm sick of paying big bucks for lousy cuts. It is really not that bad to do and I think it generates a closer bond with the dog. You also would have enough hair after a few years to have a nice hat made for Joan and you.

I don't have a tub set up yet nor a stand dryer, but I pay only $50 to have Max washed when his hair is really long.

Bill
Joan reminded me of your experience there. I have to say that we have been going there since we got Jake ('92) since about 1993, so about 12 years! I'd prefer not to speak negatively about that groomer, as she has been very good to us for a long long time, I'm just really disappointed this time.

She did say he was VERY hyper... and we've seen him be that way, so I can understand, maybe. As you know Bill, we have to keep the prong collar on him to take him outside.

Nice to see you 'round! How's Mr. Max doing?!?
I'm not trying to be down on her even though she did make Max looked like a Airdale

Max needs to take doggie downers before any groomer will take him. The poor guy does not like being blown dry

Maybe when I finish renovations on my house and have the basement set up, I can do Mulligan and Max without the drugs or crates. How much do you pay?

Bill
I always pay close attention!

The groomer gets $70 for a shave, and a little more, $75 or $80 if it's a scissoring.

Pass the tranquilizers!
