How old is your dog and is this a new behavior? If it's new what has changed around the same time the behavior began? That might give you some clues as to why your dog won't sleep. How much activity and interaction does your dog have with you during the day? Maybe s/he is bored and lonely during the day and is attempting to interact with you the only time they can. You could make a point of daily exercise and then some set play time in the evenings making sure there is time for you dog to relax and settle before you go to bed. Would something to chew at bed time, like a Kong help your dog to self settle? Perhaps you need to alter meal times too. If your dog is getting enough exercise, play and interaction with you during the day, have you tried sleeping your dog in a covered crate. A crate that is covered simulates a den and may help your dog to feel more secure and settled at night. Good luck. |
At ten yrs old your dogs bladder may be aging too. It maybe harder for her to hold it all night. I wouldn't limit water, I would just take it away 2 hrs before you go to bed. Just like you would a puppy or you could also try taking her for a nice 1/2 to hr walk right before bed time. |
Sorry I read 10 month old and went off on a tangent. |
At first I was wondering if it might be Sundowner's Syndrome but you mentioned that she actually needs to relieve herself each time she goes out. I don't have any answers but after you take her out, is she quiet for a few hours or does she start right up again? A urinary tract infection has been ruled out? Quote: I wouldn't limit water, I would just take it away 2 hrs before you go to bed. I agree. |
