I am just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this breeder? She is in SC and she was so wonderful to talk to. She wasnt trying to sell me a pup or anything, and told me what kind of breeders are out there. Her dogs are raised in home and she is sending me pics. The parents are all OFA certified and AKC registered. All of her pups come with a lmtd. AKC registration, which is good. She only charges 650 though, is that low? I am always afraid that if they arent like 1500$ then they arent good dogs. She gave me the name of her vet and she said that she takes very goo dcare of her dogs and she owns and lives with all the parents. She is also emailing me references.....so this sounds good right? Thanks! |

Don't worry about the cost as long as the breeder has good references. Bailey's breeder here in AZ was charging $800 for AKC registered, very high quality puppies. We have a family member with a wonderful OES from this breeder so we knew she was reputable. But Bailey was the last puppy left in the litter and was nearly 10 weeks old so she cut the price to $695 - she wanted to make sure to find him a good home before he got too much older and too attached to her family. My husband calls him our "bargain bin" puppy! And he's so incredible, we can't imagine why he was the last puppy left! He was just meant to come live with us. |
Hi Bailey's mom, it's funny how we end up with our little furballs! Our Max was actually supposed to go with another family, and we were going to wait for another litter. So I thought we'd have lots of time to prepare, the next day I was contacted by the breeder that if we were interested a male pup had become available! The original owner had an unexpected move and couldn't adopt the pup after all, I decided maybe it was meant to be, so Max was ours, (he was originally named Munroe) by the first family. Of course Max will never know his original name because he never met his first family

You can contact "oes rule" here at the forum. That's the screen name of Tarja Peters, and she's in charge of the OESCA Breeder Referral program.
Just search for one of her posts, and click on the PM or email buttons to contact her. |
Hi,
I show and breed occasionally OES puppies and I am in Atlanta. I have never heard of her and she isn't a member of the Old English Sheepdog Club of America. I have an OESCA Membership Roster listing. There are several puppy mills in SC and several other back yard breeders that sell low quality OES. All sound wonderful until you have a problem. I also help with rescue so I get to see many of these so called AKC & OFA puppies. At $650 for OES puppies I would be very wary. You can't breed OES correctly and sell puppies for close to that and come close to braking even. I sell my pups for 1200 to 1500 and loose money on every litter I have ever had. I only do it because I want a pup from that breeding and try to find quality homes for the rest of the litter. These people get a dog and/or bitch certified and uses them on all of the dog’s pedigrees. Unless you plan on visiting them and seeing the place they are raised and know their entire layout including the parents, etc., I wouldn't buy one. Vet checked means nothing unless x-rays were done. Later when you are paying for vet bills and need help with genetics for care and your heart is breaking over the pain and suffering one of these dogs can go through you will wish you spent the few hundred more for a good pup. You get what you pay for and 650 is asking for problems. Contact Tarja Peters if you are interested in a OES pup. Zach, I think I am thinking the same thing. I guess her pups were featured on thats my baby on the animal planet, but I guess that doesnt say much. I will pay anything, but I need a healthy one. Do you have any pups. I will drive to CA if I have to , I really really want one though. ANy sugestions would ne helpful.. I have contacted Tarja, she gave me a few names, but they never call back.
Thanks! Lauren |
If memory serves me Julie Capps was the breeder featured on that show. She is a relatively new breeder, I think that was her first litter for that show. I don't remember any mention of the name Melissa Rowe. |
yes, it was Julie Capps, I think I would go with her, but neither of these ladies certify eyes. They both said that you dont need to because you can tell when they are born if they can see. ?????sounds fishy to me. Also, they dont certify hips, but said that the parents are both good? I am so frustrated. I would really go anywhere in the US to get a healthy one, but would rather wait than get on that isnt healthy.
Can anyone help me. I really need a referral. Like I said, I have contacted Tarja and she gave me 2 people which ahvent returned my calls. ugh....... |
Maybe they just don't have any litters currently available, or they are not planning any litters right now. I know it can be frustrating to wait, but unfortunately (or fortunately, however you want to look at it), that's the name of the game if you want a reputable, healthy pup. Having a dog with hip dysplasia, I would never buy a pup that wasn't OFA certified with at least a Good rating.
Keep your chin up, and keep on truckin'! Chris |

Thanks! Lauren Please feel free to contact me again and I can get you more referrals. They are not going to be as close to you, but some breeders will ship their puppies to you. I live in Nebraska and two out of my three were shipped to me, they even had a plane change in Utah! Both of them were a little shook up, but unharmed. Thanks, Tarja |
Is it really ok to ship them? Oh, I would feel so bad for it the whole time it was in the air! Anyway, I did email you back, please email me any litters that you know of where the parents are certified. Thank sso much for yo8ur help. What a wonderful lady you are!

Lauren The breeders who do ship, will only ship with the airline who takes the best care of their puppy. And trust me, they have done lots of investigating! Our Puffer was 3 months old when we got her. She had peed herself, but other than that she was fine. Butterfly was two years old when she flew to us. She had also peed herself, but was fine also. Dogs fly on airlines all the time, you'd be surprised as to how often. Of course bad things happen sometimes, but bad things can happen anywhere at anytime. Thanks for the compliment! |

Many breeders do not cerf eyes, they should, but they don't. I'm not sure if I understand your statement correctly, but puppies hips are not certified. They can't be certified until 18 months of age in Canada and 24 months of age in the states. If the parents are certified, ask to see copies of the reports. Any reputable breeder would gladly send you copies of all health testing and certifications, pictures of parents, and pups from previous litters, as well as references from previous puppy buyers. You can also check www.offa.org to check certifications and results, but not all are posted there, so if you don't see the dog you are looking for don't assume it hasn't been done. It's also a good idea to speak to the breeders vet. Ask about any health problems they've dealt with. Good luck in your search! |
Hi All!!!
I just wanted to let you guys know that I have one of Julie Capps puppies from the very first litter. His name is Dudley and he is Perfect! He has never had one health problem. I love how she has her kids so interactive with the dogs. They are really kid friendly and used to being loved and snuggled when you get them. I have a 5 yr. old daughter who uses Dud for a pillow. They are awesome people and I dont think I would ever get a dog anywhere else now that I have her. I am actually getting another one of her pups may 3rd. A little girl this time. She has a website, Dogtopiakennels.com anyway, She will not ship her dogs, she will bring them to you or meet you half way. I am flying from Tampa into Nashville to get mine. And yes she was on" Thats My Baby." |

They have an OES puppy mill or backyard somewhere around here - some joker tried telling me I should have gotten a puppy from them rather than spending all that money to have her shipped... oh yeah... I was all over that one. There are lots of cat mills out here too - I've seen them... not pretty. |
