Glycogen Storage Disorder (GSD) We need your help! There is research being done on OES by Colorado State University (CSU) and Florida State University investigating what what is believed to be Glycogen Storage Disorder (GSD) in some OES. This disorder is associated with low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). CSU has requested that we ask the members of OESCA for any animals that have had one or more hypoglycemic episodes (low blood sugar) in their OES. The purpose for this request is to help determine if this is an isolated problem in a small group of OES or if it could be a more wide spread disorder. We ask that you report only dogs who have had documented (i.e. blood work performed by their vet) cases of hypoglycemia. Please send in the medical histories of such dog if possible. It is not necessary to send in pedigrees on these dogs and all information shall be kept strictly confidential. Please contact David C. Twedt, DVM, Diplomat ACVIM, at Colorado State University for more specific information (david.twedt@colostate.edu) or Michelle Redfern, DVM (member OESCA HRC at redfern1@windstream.net for general information regarding this disorder and how you may be able to help ongoing research. |

Thanks for posting this. GSD is one of the handful of things that Oscar does not have.... Laurie and Oscar |

I think this was the disease that took an acquaintance's dog some time ago. A Maltese maybe? At any rate, never heard of it in an OES, but other than Oscar's myriad of medical mysteries, most of my "OES exposure" is right here on this forum. Hope GSD isn't creeping into the breed. Hey Kristine - I never got that email. Who's the sender so I can contact them? Thanks |
got sheep wrote: Hey Kristine - I never got that email. Who's the sender so I can contact them? Thanks Hi, Dawn. It's the webmaster - Dennis. Do you need his e-mail address? Your e-mail address may be correct, but it some times bounces. I've seen that when we discuss the 2012 specialty as well. Ask him if yours was one of the ones he got a delivery failure notice on. If not, maybe your e-mail program thought the blast e-mail was spam....? Any other OESCA members not get the blast e-mail?I have a feeling OESCA may be availing itself a bit more of blast e-mail in the future. If you (general you) haven't done so lately, now would probably be a good time to check the roster, make sure your contact info is updated and correct, and, if it isn't, notify the corresponding secretary, Amanda Ruelle. Thanks! Kristine |

Thanks! Kristine I have Dennis's - I'll contact him. ( I checked my junk mail - it wasn't there) And the OESCA list has had my email address wrong most of the time. I have notified Amanda SEVERAL times over the last few years and apparently it never gets changed. I have never gotten an OESCA email, so it must never get corrected. I note it with my renewals too, and Marilyn has passed it on as well. I really don't know what more I can do. |

Well, Amanda has only been secretary for a little over a year, but I get your point. We've been discussing the problem with updates just recently and Dennis thinks he has a way to make life easier for the club. In the mean time, let me see what I can do. Kristine |
