Does anyone have knee problems?

As I posted a few weeks ago about my fall down the stairs. My knee has been bothering me alittle. Kind of like it gets stuck when i'm bending it. Well me being the clutz that I am. I came home Friday night and slipped on a patch of ice on the deck. Down I went, cracked my knee and twisted my ankle AGAIN.
Now my knee really hurts when I get up from the couch and when I'm just lying in bed. UGH. I didn't want to go back to the Drs. Any suggestions?

Let me count the decades......... it comes and goes depending how I've let the muscles above and below go to pot. Initally tears, over use, etc. Now arthritis.

Immediately after injury, ice, elevation and compression to retard the swelling. After that initial period, rest, rehap and I like heat. I get varying opionions on the heat, but it just feels good. Once the internal bleeding is stopped, I feel the extra blood brought with heat helps....yeah, yeah, better for muscle spasms.

You may be some type of stabilizing brace for awhile while you work on those supporting muscles above and below.

Pain meds: The usual, Tylenol, Advil or that third: Neproxin.......whatever works.

Coming down on the knee may have bruised or broken the knee cap. The ankle, good twist. What a bummer! Try cruches and support......Ace wrap.....and gentle rehap.

Unless you are a multi-million dollar sports figure or you require knee for your work, you'll find most orthopods treat knee injuries very conservately. Most are pulling back in surgery or physical intervention in favor of strengthening the whole leg to support the slightly damaged knee.

When mine bothers me I hear from my DH: "Time for the purse and coins." Years ago when he hurt his knee the rehab was to "take your wife's old purse, gradually fill with coins, loop it around your ankle and do leg lifts." The doc wanted him to work up to 20 lbs of coins......ain't a purse made to hold 20 lbs by the handles, LOL! I know my purse can get heavy sometimes, but never 20 lbs.
Sorry to hear you slipped again and are sore.

Rest, ice, compression and elevation and anti inflams and/or pain meds as needed.

If your knee continues to lock then you may have a loose piece of cartilage due to damage done when you fell. If that's the case you should see and ortho as it can cause wear and tear in the long term. Get your knee settled first though. It may just be due to swelling and inflammation.

Hope it all heals up ok. :crossed:

Good thoughts here from Mim. If it is cartilage damage, it most likely will not heal itself. I waited 3 months to go to the dr. when I damaged mine, required surgery (they can tell that from an MRI) & then 2 months of PT because I had lost so much muscle strength from not using my leg. I lost 4-1/2 months of showing my dog. Strength training AFTER the surgery & PT helped greatly for several years then the bones had worn away enough that even that didn't do the trick & I had to start getting gel injections. They have worked well for me over the last 7 years but I know a replacement is around the corner. Just can't find 6 months that I can give up  My dogs are not getting any younger & then there's always the new puppy that I found a show home for........I might add that a knee brace is a permanent part of my wardrobe at dog shows & training classes.
Archie has bent both of my knees the wrong way! :twitch:

I have had keyhole surgery on both - it removed the shooting pains.

Blood tests and xrays revealed nothing - MRI scan showed up some damaged - it was only when they went in was the extent of the damage revealed - my right knee had half the cartilage ripped clean in half and trapped between my joint - no wonder it smarted! - that loose part was cut away - it felt better as soon as I woke up from the OP

My left knee was done the following year, similar symptoms - similar diagnosis - MRI showed a lot of clear damage this time it was trimmed and tidied the photo revealed early onset of Arthritis in that joint. Pain relief wasn't as quick as other knee.

I think bad knees rhymes with good sheepies............................................
