my son lives in Ireland, he lives in C/o Wexford it is beautiful there and there are no problems there, he lives in Strand a few miles from Rosslair, he has a 7 mile long beach which is always empty. but you will be OK anywere in souther Ireland, |
Never been to Ireland, but I do keep their economy (somewhat) afloat with my Guinness consumption. |
Have many friends who make trips there often. They gush about it. Not only is it lovely the people are friendly. Northern Ireland has a different mind set.....not as open and friendly......until they get to know you. |
We were there last spring. We were in Dublin and took several day trips to other areas. It was lovely--very green and beautiful. The people were fabulous and we really had a wonderful time. |
Thanks all. We were thinking staying in Dublin (priced Four Seasons hotel and a Holiday Inn there) and doing day trips as well. My girls had talked about Derry but that is Northern Ireland and I dont know how safe that would be. I really appreciate all info. When we were trying to see where would be a good area to go to I instantly thought about OES.ORG and how helpful everyone is. Knew I get some good feed back here. |
another question - is summer the best time to go? I hear it doesnt get very warm there. |
Northern Ireland isn't like it was years ago. Normally you are very safe......safer with a tour group. Might want to do a climate search for Ireland, you'll probably want to stick to the warmer months. http://www.wordtravels.com/Cities/Ireland/Dublin/Climate Look at temps and rainfall to make up your mind. |
I did, said summer is about 68 degrees thats winter in Texas. haha said it rains almost everyday but just showers off and on. guess thats why everything is so green |
...and why they are so fair skinned, they never see the sun! |
We were there in mid-May. It was typically foggy in the morning and cool--sweater weather really. In the afternoon it was sunny and generally about 55-65 degrees in Dublin. We did spend a few days in Corque and it was a little cooler and wetter there. Layering that time of the year is a good idea. |
Oh, how fun! I went forever ago when I was a kid so, I can't help but, would love to go back!! (you lucky bugger) A couple that adopted two OES from us go there a lot...he works with Pro Golf... Remind me on FB and I will put you in contact with them!! Have fun!!!!!!!!!! |
Thanks. Looks like the "girls trip" to Ireland will be next summer. My husband really wants a family vacation this year with all of us togther. So it looks like we are going to do Disneyworld this year before the kids get "to old". They are 18,15,12 now. BUT this is good because it will give us a whole year to plan our Ireland trip and for my sister to be able to join us. Really cant wait to see it though. All the research is making me sooo excited! |
Norm and I had 2 wonderful weeks in Ireland! We flew into Shannon....... and our first stop was at Adare Manor in Adare. It was the most marvelous place we have ever stayed. Unfortunately we had just come from Austria and i had pneumonia. We were given the Master Room of the Manor...... OMG the BATHROOM was all Marble and as big as my whole living room............with huge fireplaces on each end! We were treated as royalty. The food was remarkable. We have always said we are going to go back, someday we will. Then we rented a car and drove from North to South and East to West. We saw the National Stud Farm and watched a foal born........... visited Brian Boru's grave............the Giant's Causeway Steps.......Cliff's of Moehr.... and Trinity Church to see the bibles. We both kissed the blarney stones............and visited wollen mills. Other than staying at the Adare Castle, we stayed the whole trip (europe in 4 months) in Youth Hostels. The best one ws in Dublin............the worst in Edinbourough.......... We will get back there someday.............. |
