I'm concerned about her jumping, though. Now that I have her doing it, she doesn't seem concerned about any height I've given. But how high is too high? She's 14 months now and will jump 20 inches if allowed, though I've been keeping it lower. Our instructor seems certain she will be jumping 24 inches before long, but will not require it. In class she will max a dog out at 20 inches. I don't want Ecco to hurt herself. We do have the special flooring in the training facility that lessens the impact on the joints, but I'm not sure that makes it ok. Should I keep her to a certain height? Is there an age I should wait for before she jumps the full height? |

Good question. I usually stick to jumping 16" until mine are about 18 mos old to hopefully err on the side of growth plates being closed, and then after that move them up pretty quickly to the height they'll be jumping in competition, which in turn depends on the height at their withers and the rules of whichever agility organizations I decide to compete in etc etc That's not a hard and fast rule by any means, but there's really no sense in rushing them. Especially given that they mentally mature roughly two years after they physically mature Great that you're working on a good surface. Kristine |
