Sparky start coming around my front yard and kind of look at the dogs and try to play with them, when you try to get close to him he used to take off running and don’t let you catch him, after a while he start to snick into the yard thru one of the many holes, one day Kathy when outside and it was raining, she manage to catch him a bought him in, she dry him and we took a look at his tags, call the vet office in the tag get the phone # for his owners and call them. In the mean time I need it to go the bed (I work 3rd shift) so he went to bed with me and the rest of the girls , his people did not call until the next day asking if he still around, I say yes and they came and pick him up. Next day I open the door to let the kids out and there was Sparky at the door waiting, I say well is ok I guess, he stay for breakfast and then we all went to bed, we took him back to his house in the afternoon and he was back bright and early the next day, this went on for like a week, so finally one day the his people ask us if we want him because they rally don’t want him because he was peeing in the house and causing all kind of problems and keep running off to our house, and they did not know anything about dogs, they pick him out of the street the winter before. So, Sparky become part of our family, he choose us and we finally give in. Sparky is one of that dogs follow the beat of his own drum, he is very independent but the thing that he love the most is climb in top of you and be pet it for hours, he love to cuddle, but if he goes out side he look for the thinnest hole the fence and goes to visit her friend in the neighborhood. I believe that dogs communicated with each other is some way no just by barking, Sparky has almost no voice, but still communicating really good with others, Christmas night, him and Cooper ( a Maltese ) when to run the neighborhood , after a while I went outside and call and call and they did not come, so I start to worry, anyway, after half hour I hear some barking and when outside and find Sparky and Cooper at the front gate, I let them in and another 2 dogs come in with them ! . Two yellow labs come running and join the party! I grab the labs, thinking that they belong to a neighbor, and put them out of the gate and told them to go home. Well, the next day the dogs were barking like mad at the back door so I open the door and guess what I found? The 2 yellow labs staring at me, so I understood then that they were lost, I tough I don’t need any more dogs, but I could not let them out in the cold, so there is Monica bringing in 2 labs into the house give them food and water and let them just chill . They ate and went to sleep you could tell that they were very tired and cold. When Kathy wake up we check for tag, nothing, the only thing was a remote control in one of the collars for a invisible fence. Katy got in the computer and sends an e-mail to the company to try to find out the name of the owners. Then I call the pound, they have a report of somebody looking for 2 labs, they give the phone # but when I call the told me that the dogs have been found, so I call back and ask if the had a way to check for a microchip, they say yes, so we put the dogs in the car and we went, bingo one of them had one, we call the owner and they come really quick to pick the dogs. The dogs have been lost for 4 days , somebody took the collar of the boy and he likes to run away and the mom just follow, anyway thanks to the microchip in the mom, the dogs found there way home. Thank you God, we really did not need 2 more dogs. But after all this rambling about Sparky, I got to tell you something, I feel guilty for let that 2 labs spend one more night out in the cold, Sparky and Cooper are rescues, you can say, and is not the first time the bring home a “friend” that is lost, seems like they tell them, “hey come with me, my mommy’s will feed you and keep you until they found your family or just make you part of the family, just like us” How they do it? I am not sure, why they do it? Who knows, but I tell you something , they do it and they do it really good, and they must know that they have a pair of suckers for mommies that will take any lost dog and feed them and help them to get home or give them a home. They just have to understand 1 thing, our heart could be very big but the house is not ! Here is a small clip of Sparky walking backwards all the way to the chicken coop, you can hear him, he really dosent bark but make a lot of noise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnagHngtakU |

Oh Monica, how great this is. I know you feel badly about the labs but you really didn't know and you did do the right thing for them. I bet they have your placed marked and the word has gotten out about the kind people there. |
No foster dogs for you Monica. You have dog fosterers! If that makes sense, dogs who go out and bring home foster dogs then they get them warm and feed them and find their home for them. The video of Sparky is hysterical. He sounds just like the battery driven puppy my sister got for Christmas when she was about 5 years old. Obviously my Mum thought 3 kids was enough and she didn't want a dog too. |
What a great story. Sparky has certainly earned his name! Love the video. Laurie and Oscar |
Dogs know a good heart when they see it. How wonderful that your will spread the kindness you have shown them. Yes, lucky that you found the proper homes for the extras, but what a good thing you have done! |
