It is not a little bit of grey, it's a lot, all over her body. Is this common? I thought that the black stayed that way, until 6 months or longer. Her eye Tail and rear legs Rear leg (which seems to be the hardest area to keep groomed now) Undercoat |

It's normal, and the areas she's starting to transition in are usually the 1st areas. Some start early, some are late bloomers, so there is no real set "right" time to change. Even littermates can vary greatly with their coats and transitioning. So, this means line brushing is now a big part of your life...or puppy gets a haircut... The areas getting new coat means the old puppy coat is coming out - and that makes the mats if the old doesn't get brushed out. I loved seeing the new "roots" of new coat coming when I brush through trasitions, it's pretty exciting seeing what new colors are coming. Yeah, guess I'm easily entertained! |
Thanks, I guess I will have to brush her even more than I already do. Is thinning out of of her fur part of the coat transition? I have noticed some parts of her fur thin right before a bunch of grey comes in. (Im almost positive im the only one that notices her fur thinning) Shes so young. The grey is just an early reminder that shes not going to be a pup forever Although, I am excited to see what color she will be next. |

It is not a little bit of grey, it's a lot, all over her body. Is this common? I thought that the black stayed that way, until 6 months or longer. Same exact thing happened with our puppy and I had the same freakout. I even asked the vet! It's just the normal coat change and it happens differently for each puppy. |
She is getting her junior coat, some change early others are late bloomers. Two from the same litter, one girl one boy, look at the variance in coat change. The girl started to change early like your sweetie, the boy still at that time had a long way to go with him still a lot of puppy fluff and coat. At 8-12 weeks the others from that litter, some still all puppy black coat while others the lighter grey was starting to show through. There all different in there coat transitions as to when they start to change. |
