But I was only half kidding. My favorite example of people protesting in ignorance happened 7 years ago. I came across a campaign worker for Dennis Kucinich 2004 in a tent at a farmer's market of some sort. Because I made the mistake of looking in her direction, she came up to me and started to ask me questions about stuff. Never one to keep my mouth shut, I replied. Then she started going on about "Cheney and Haliburton and the no-bid contracts" and didn't I think that was wrong and essentially how the Vice President was steering contracts to his friends at Haliburton and so forth. That did it. I asked her: "What contracts were given?" She didn't know. I asked her: "What does Haliburton do?" She didn't know. I asked her: "What other company could even do what Haliburton was doing for the US?" She didn't know? I asked her: "Don't you think you should at least know those answers before saying something was improper?" She was stunned, looked at me with an expression of kind of a mixture of embarrassment and questioning and walked away. I had a similar situation in my own family. A member said to me: "Well you know when Clinton lied nobody died." I replied "What did President Bush lie about?" She replied: "Oh Ronny." and walked away. That's what she does when she can't answer a question, like she had some God inspired truth that I just can't see. Of course she doesn't know ANY of the details of that truth, but why let little details get in the way of good rhetoric? Here's another fave: "The rich are undertaxed." "Really? What percent should the rich be taxed?" I never get a definitive answer on this one, unless there is legislation pending, then it is always the level of the pending legislation. Then "Why do you think it should be at THAT particular level?" ends the conversation there. So... anybody have a similar complaint about people protesting when they don't even understand the issues? |

Yeah, the entire male side of my family and their offspring. When family get together at mother's passing each child was asked to share a little "Momism." I told the time she and I were discussing politics and she said, "I sent a nice young Republican son to Harvard and look at the mess they sent back. Then he went and corrupted his brothers. Thank heavens, Susie, he didn't brain wash you." |
I like how your family calls you Ronny |
Yeap! Just a handful of people call me Ronny; my immediate family. Then my closest friends nearly all call me Uncle Ronny, but we all call each other "Uncle" this and "Auntie" that. I think it goes back to when all the others had tons of kids and we were all honorary aunts and uncles. |
