Does anyone have one that can give me some insight? I was looking at this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GL8G4A/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_3?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B000MD58MA&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1X94122G282WABSWFRJT |

I do not have the hammock, but have the bench seat cover and highly recommend it. After a run at the dog park and wet, muddy, sweaty, or just drool, the car is protected. Patch has even had an accident or two with her #2 incontinence and the car seat is fine protected by the cover. I put a quilt backing on the cover and throw it in the wash all the time so Patch has something soft to lay on. |
I was going to do just the seat cover, but Rudie gets car sick quite often and sometimes it gets on the floor. I was hoping the hammock would prevent that. But after reading reviews on amazon, it looks like it wouldn't support his weight. Hmmm.. |

You could get by with seat covers then, and still have an easy cleanup! I keep a couple rubber backed cotton rugs on the floors in the back, so super easy to throw them in the wash if they get soiled. The dogs like the feel better too, rather than the bare floors. |
I would love an Element, but I just got a Honda CRV! At firs, I put the back seats flat so I just had a huge open trunk space. The problem is that I leave a lot of dog rescue stuff in the trunk, so I had to worry about Rudie puking on that or rifling through the boxes looking for treats. Maybe my new year's resolution should be to keep my car less full of clutter! |
Have you checked to see if Honda makes something for your vehicle? We have an odyssey, and bought these bucket floor mats custom fit, and they're wonderful. You add on just a cover for the seat, and you're completely covered. I'd liek to think it's held up well having 2 dogs in it and 3 [always eating in the car] kids. We also bought one through Nissan for our other vehicle (for the back part of the suv). It's the best! I do like what you've chosen, but I'm just throwing other options out there in case you haven't looked! |
No experience with the car hammocks, but lots of experience with a vomiting dog in car. Murphy would vomit almost immediately when the car moved. I started giving him ginger snap cookies about 10 minutes before I knew we would be leaving in the car. Worked like a charm. |
WE HAVE THIS HAMMOCK! Love it! Have had it for about four years and used it in two different vehicles. No worry about holding your dog. My dog is about 110 pounds and holds him fine. Also, keeps him from falling onto the floor when stopping short ,etc. Also, washed well. Right into the washer and dryer. I recommend this hammock highly! |
This is why I love this message board! I am purchasing ginger snap cookies and the dog hammock today I looked at seats made for the crv and it looks like they are all pretty pricey. Seems like a good investment, but I'm going to see if the dog hammock does the trick first. |
I had a hammock and it supported Tiggy's and Rastus's weight but it made the space smaller, they like to sit with their front paws hanging into the foot well. We currently drive a two door Toyota so it's a bit squishy for a sheepie and a dalmo in the back. I gave my hammock to a friend and she has it as a seat cover rather than a hammock and loves how clean it keeps the seat. The thing to think about though is the covers are generally fairly waterproof so if Rudie does throw up it will likely run back all over him so the car will be clean but not Rudie. I'd consider still throwing some old towels or sheets on the hammock just to soak up any puke if he's sick. |

Ugh, yes that is exactly what I'm worried about. I bought one that looks like it's a bit longer so it will dip down a bit and the puke will hopefully pool in the dip instead of sliding back on Rudie. I'm not sure whos more expensive to clean, Ru or the car! |
