Last night we let her go. One month shy of her 11th birthday. Our little family needs to reconfigure now. The boys keep looking for her. She was quietly the queen of our house. Rebecca came to live with us at age 5. She was not your typical sheepdog when she arrived. Shy and nervous, always hiding to feel safe. It took a long time, but with lots of coaxing, she ended up becoming miss social butterfly. Running up to total strangers and barking to them to come pet her, running around the yard with the neighborhood kids. Her oral squamous cell carcinoma got the better of her this past month. She decided that it was getting too painful to eat this week. We are so thankful to have had her in our lives. She brought us much joy & love - she was such a sweet girl. (Except when it came time to take down Frank.) |

Deb, I am really sorry about Rebecca. They are each so special in their own way and really are a family member. We still talk about our Mopsy all the time and it has been almost 5 years. May the pain ease enough that the warm sweet memories carry you through this difficult time. Take care, we will be thinking of you. |
We are very sorry for your loss. |

So sorry for your loss. Loved your stories of her and Frank in other posts. |
Oh Deb. I am truly sorry for your loss. No words are sufficient to describe how much they mean to us or how lost and empty we feel when they move on across the bridge. I hope that your memories of her will bring you comfort. |
Oh Deb, I'm so sorry. I try to avoid this section so I didn't see your post right away. I know you'll miss your girl. It's the worst feeling in the world. I hate this. |
Tears are flowing Deb I am so sorry for your loss of your special girl, bless her darling soul. Thinking of you all at this sad time and may rebecca watch over you all, always. |
Thanks everyone for your kind words. Only you guys can truly understand what it is like to lose one of these dogs. I'm feeling a little better tonight, sharing this with you all has really helped. I was keeping it in at work. Not telling anyone because I didn't want to start crying in front of everyone I work with. Plus I feel like I'm bumming everyone out around the holidays. |

I just saw this. I am so sorry to read about Rebecca. It is always too soon to have to say goodbye. No matter how much we know we are doing the right thing, the only right thing, it is still such a hard, hard thing to do. She was a lucky girl to have you. |
Oh, Deb! I am just catching up with this thread, and it saddens me so very much. Rebecca was an angel - Dale often said if for any reason you had to give her up, we would take her in a heartbeat. Such a sweet soul and a beautiful girl. I know how your heart hurts right now, but I know her many memories will keep her alive in your hearts forever. Hugs to you and Chris, and special belly rubs for Frank and Haggis. RIP, sweet Rebecca. |
I am so sorry for your loss. I have a difficult time reading the posts in this category. But I wanted to let you know I send my prayers and sheepie thoughts out to you Rest in peace, sweet Rebecca... |

Deb, I'm so sorry for your loss. Your pup was loved very much! I haven't been on the forum much at all the past few years due to time constraints so I know we haven't chatted like we used to. Please know that we are thinking of you! |
aww Deb i'm so sorry for your loss i'm feeling for you right now sending((( hugs))) |
Deb, I'm so sorry for your terrible loss. Continued hugs to you and please pass some along to all your boys. |
We had the same situation on Thanksgiving Morning. Harry was 11 1/2 and had come to us when he was four. He was the smartest boy - we had taught him to wave back to us when he was sitting on his cushion.... and he loved our two portugese water dogs - he taught our male , Paddles , to chase squirrels.! He had bone cancer in his front leg. One light bit of info - about a week after he passed my husband was in his loft office with the two PWD's and heard "someone" drinking from the water dish in the kitchen. From that moment on we knew that Harry had made a successful transition and that his spirit was with us. Rebecca is very beautiful and I offer you all of my support and understanding. |
Thanks again everyone for your sympathy, it really helps. |
I am so sorry about your sweet Rebecca. I am sure she had many friends waiting for her at the bridge. God speed Rebecca. It is almost ironic that we picked up a sheepie, that I am fostering, about a week before you lost your Rebecca. Her name is Rebecca also, and it has been that for years. |
