Here's the details: Quote: Zeke has had some flea issues. Back in August, I had him stay at a coworker's house while in the process of moving and she had some rescue cats where he picked up some fleas. Ive been giving him flea baths/sprays every week and have been bombing the house, etc.. Took him to his new vet and she said the fleas have been fierce this year and that it is imperative to keep him on a year round preventative. She said even frontline can fail if the fleas grow tolerant to it. I ordered an oral medication that kills the fleas on contact and ordered the heartworm preventative that includes preventing the flea eggs/larvae from hatching. I have him on benadryl too to help stop the itching/irritation. Its prob going to take a few more months to stop the cycle once all the meds kick in. Does this line of treatment sound right? Is there any advice I can give her to try to speed this process along? I wish I could help him get thru this faster. |

Sorry, just saw this! We have had more luck this year using Advanttix and Vectra. We(for the first time ever) have had issues.... |
Truth be told, I'm not sure ANY preventative was being used on Zeke. So I'm not sure a brand switch is needed. ANY brand would work. It just needs to be used!! |
We use Advantrix on a regular basis throughout the Spring and Summer. We stop with the first frost. However, the fleas may have been dormant inside, in carpets, etc. I would treat the house with foggers. Of course you MUST take the dog ( and yourself) out of the house during the fogger process. Everyone out, put dog bowls, food, etc in refrig...cover human toothbrushes and utensils...once out, set off foggers...and leave house with windowns closed for three hours...return, open all windown and air for 3o minutes...wipe down counter tops, floors, etc...and return to house. Sounds like a pain but works...That wilth an application of Advantrix should work. Good luck! I can't believe you have a flea problem in Syrcuse with all that snow! |

I don't have custody of Zeke anymore. When I split with my ex g/f, she took Zeke and I kept Brick. She gives me updates on him and sends pictures every once in a while and sometimes I share those updates & pics here. So maybe I should have said that Zeke and my ex have fleas. That sounds better. |
