Judi, you're not much for the Christmas holidays, are you?! MERRY CHRISTMAS and BEST WISHES TO ALL FOR A VERY HAPPY AND HEALTHY 2011. DENISE and PATCH ps. Judi, have you bought my present yet? |
Gosh Denise, you caught me. I do like the Christmas holidays. I have 5 Christmas trees up in my house right now, I listen to Christmas music the whole month of December, and I wear a lot of red and green this whole month too. BUT I hate, hate, hate gift giving. It stresses me out more than you can imagine. I really pare down my gift giving. I try to find something that people will really like. But I would rather spend $30 on gift for an under $10 gift exchange if I know it is something the person can use or wants. Or I will spend only $5 if it again is the perfect gift. Because it is not supposed to be about swapping $20 gift cards without any effort. A gift should be from the heart. It should say "I love you", "I am glad you are my friend" or "Thanks for all you do". It should be able to come along anytime to say "I saw this and I thought it was perfect for you" Not because someone says let us all put our names in the hat, each draw one, write down suggestions and then I will buy someone I don't know what they told me to get them. I love when people give gifts of their time or just spend time being together. Don't get me wrong it is nice to remember people once a year. I just don't think it should be forced or materialistic. I always remind my kids "We are in Whoville" and they know it is not about all the gift giving and baubles. Sorry Denise but the bottom line is I didn't get you a gift. And now I am feeling bad because you were expecting one. Did I mention I hate gift giving? |
yes ron, santa emoticons seem to be the biggest hit with st louis ladies!!!!! hmmmmm |
I agree, gift giving has become more of a must. The hat thing is not fun for me either. I love buying for my sister and some friends, but would rather have dinner with them throughout the year, something I truly enjoy. I spent 2 hours at a very poor nursing home today with Patch and decided to spend Christmas there in an effort to pull some people out of their sadness by passing out homemade cookies and other treats with an elf at my side (Patch). Living in an institutional setting is bad enough, but is so much worse during the holidays. I bet your house is beautiful with 5 trees, you are very ambitious. Please send some pictures. I have one and it is so pretty standing in the sunroom. Patch passes by it several times a day and nary an ornament has been broken which is a miracle since she is my bull in a china shop - Mother, who recently died, bought most of them for me throughout the years so I now really value them. Again, Ho Ho Ho from Patch and me! |
