Good question. :lmt:

For Christmas day itself, I'm not really sure. I work that day, so whatever Todd makes will be good.

For his family's Christmas (over 50 people - we had 47 for Thanksgiving), it is a potluck buffet - a mix of real food and snack/holiday treats. I guess I need to make up my mind what I'll make for that. It's on Sunday afternoon, the 26th.
oooooohhh!!

Thanks for this thread...

We STILL haven't decided and we really need to.

We always have Christmas Eve at our house with just our family and sometimes a couple of friend who have no where to go on the EVE. This year we are hosting our children, spouses and grandchildren and 3 friends so our total will be 15!! Plus Pearl, Coz and Heart....2 poodles (a standard and a teacup) ChouChou and Gabby....and maybe Maureen's 2 AM. bulls....but maybe not..... :? :| 8O 8O

In the past we have had, Crab legs/////Prime Rib////Filets///Lobster..so we have to come up with something really GREAT!!!!! ..and I have NO clue!!! So maybe this thread will give me some ideas!!!!! :plead: :plead: :plead:
This will be the first year, in almost 34 years of marrige, that it will just be the two of us on Christmas day. It's still kind of hard for me to wrap my arms around, and I can't say that I like it. :(

We are all going to Mom's this Sunday, and having some of John's disfunctional family Christmas eve..

For years we have went to my Sisters for brunch, and then several would be here for an evening meal, play games etc..

My Sister just informed me today that she wasn't having brunch this year. The kids ( nieces and nephews) are getting older, and a couple are married, so they have started their own traditions on Christmas day. With that, my brother, who used to come here , will be with his daughters enjoying the grandkids.

So, guess it is John and I. Very strange, because we are used to a houseful during the holidays.

I am thinking pizza. :(
it all depends whether brian works or not, whether brians ex wants the kids the eve or the day....we dont always celebrate christmas ON christmas.ive come to just work around everyones schedule..i just want the family there...the day doesnt matter so much..

.i always make filet mignon, lobster tail, twice baked potatoes and some sort of veggie. and dessert is apple dumpling with vanilla ice cream...
Good question. My mom is in the hospital, and will most likely still be in the hospital on Christmas Day. I live over 50 miles away, my sister over 100, so visiting Mom is a day long affair. So we might end up eating at the hospital cafeteria. I do have a 5 pound prime rib in the freezer that was going to be Christmas dinner for all of us. *sigh*.
we will be having turkey and all the trimmings, as it's traditional here in the UK.

Ham for sure and some sides but haven't decided what yet. We don't make Christmas dinner as big as Thanksgiving. Guess everyone is tired and just want something simpler.
I try to stick to peanut butter balls, fudge, and baked brie... 8)
This year we are going to do Fondue on Christmas Eve. We will do the traditional Cheese and Bread to start. Then I will do Beef Tenderloin- Chicken and Shrimp for the meat. We will have Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Mushrooms to Fondue and serve a Baked Potato on the side. And of course the decadent Chocolate with Strawberries etc. to top it off! We have done this once before on Christmas Eve and found it to be lots of fun and time for great conversation. Thought we would try it again! :santa2: :tree: :santa:
the fondue sounds wonderful.
i think its going to be whatever Norm can cook. All i wanted for Christmas was my back to not hurt. Today we saw the surgeon and i will have a new disc    We bought a ham (Norm's request), so possibly my 'not so sweet-sweet potatoes', greenbean and corn cassarole, and baked pies.

If i can get it done, baked custard and a coconut cake.

Richard wanted a duck. I don't know much about this.

He came home last night with a 5 lb. duck frozen.
So I guess I will be looking for a way to roast it.

Has anyone ever cooked one????

HELP

:tree: :santa:
I would go to food network...I do know if not cooked right it can be really greasy. People save the duck grease to flavor other foods. Good luck! My daughter wanted something different...we are having lasagne, and I'm making chocolate tiramisu. Personally I could eat a turkey dinner with all the trimmings any day of the year but husband and daughter only want it Thanksgiving. Zoe at 2 1/2 prefers lasange or anything with a tomato sauce and noodles...she'd probably prefer spagettito anything. I have resigned myself to having anything as long as we are together. It certainly is easier on me not to have to brine, cook turkey and make all the trimmings though. I've never made tiramisu so it willbe fun making something new. We are also making goodies tomorrow with 2 yr old...gooey butter cakes, fudge, choc pnut butter candy and cookies. :santa: Merry Christmas!
LOL !!! :santa: lasange, My sauce is already made. :santa2: Picking up the rest today. All the cheesee, pasta, ect.

But I still am making the duck. I found many ideas from the foodnet. :headbang: :tree:

So I will pick my favorate cheif and go with his...( Alton Brown.) :hearts: :hearts:
Another year I'm just doing desserts!! I've made 13 different desserts (cakes, cookies, candy, etc) for my mom and mil's house and I've gained 7lbs since Thanksgiving!!! We stand around all day waiting for a meal, so the guys fill up on goodies ALL day long. ...and I like to give them stuff they can put in the freezer to last them awhile! (and I overdue everything to try to please everyone)

My mom is making eggrolls, buldak (spicy chicken), bulgogi, bibimbop (my favorite rice mix creation), sushi rolls, dooboo kimchi, and some soondae which is this very unusual pork sausage that they sell in carts in the city everywhere! I'm so excited since it's all I crave!

My mil is making lasagna.
Our Christmas dinner is decided - going out for Chinese!

We were bored about 5-6 yrs ago, and decided to go out, our favorite Chinese buffet was one of the few open in town.
Ever since, we have often done that as our plan. Just Todd and I and the kids, evolved now into spouses and grandkids too!

I work on Chritmas day, so I will meet them all in the middle (at the restaurant) when I get off duty at 7pm, then on to LeAnne and Keith's house afterwards for family present exchange. :D :D

Sunday the 26th is our big Finch Christmas, and I'm trying a new pecan praline dessert recipe out on them :D

ps - Deana - Todd made turducken with his duck for thanksgiving this year, and it turned out great. No greasy duck taste, and the turkey and chicken were great too. LOTS of work for Todd, but it was fabulous! It had sage dressing between the layers, so yummy. Now we need to talk him into it for next year as well!
It came out GTEAT!!!!.
Dawn,

Did Todd stuff the turdunken? or cookit seperate?

The turducken recipe he followed had layers of the dressing between each of the meats. There was some in the middle of the chicken, then another layer between chicken and duck, another layer between duck and turkey. It was mostly meat, with thin layers of dressing. So, we made more dressing separate to go with the meal.
It was just delicious - and we don't usually care for duck!
