Flowbee anyone?

Has anyone tried one of these on an OES? Thinkin bout getting one...

I haven't tried a Flowbee but did try a RoboCut. Maybe just me
but I prefer regular electric dog clippers... clippers are faster.
(I used it on a dog with a dense coat.)

If I had to choose between the two, I'd get an electric clipper.
For $100-$150, you can get a good one.
How does Foster feel about the noise of the vacuum cleaner? I would worry that it might add an element of anxiety about grooming.

Oscar is deaf and STILL hates the vacuum cleaner. :D

My husband CONSTANTLY talks about me getting one. I think when I have looked them up, I can't find one that can take super thick hair like a sheepdog. I haven't spent a lot of time researching them ...but I do remember that being my problem when I did look.

That is hilarious!...in a sad way.
We have the opposite - Harley LOVES the vacuum. He actually likes to be vacuumed on his body w/ the brush attachment.
So now, of course Simon has to be vacuumed too. He's not so sure about it, but if Harley likes it and gets attention for it, he better be too! :cow:
Butch loves to be vacuumed, Tripper goes the other way. Butch at times gets the vacuum hose stuck on his tongue.
My client (I do homecare nursing) has a flowbee. While I've never seen it in action (they do the haircuts in the late evening after I am gone), I opened up the box it's in and took a peek! 8)

After checking it over, and reading the directions, I would say NO, it will not work on an OES.

1st, it says to NEVER cut more than half an inch. It says that right in the beginning, under the do's and don'ts about a flowbee. Right there, it would be out for me!

And looking at the metal blades, I say it won't work. Looks like it would grab, not cut, the fluff of the under coat.

Then add in the extra noise - another no. Now, my client has a in wall vacuum system, so it doesn't scare him.

If you aren't up to scissoring the whole dog (my preference), I would get a decent clippers meant for a dog. It makes a world of difference!

Hi Laurie and Oscar.

Actually he's pretty good with the vaccume. (Now...anyways.) Had to train him out of pouncing all over it and the broom, and the mop, and the swiffer, etc. But now he even likes it when I run the vaccume hose over him to get any missed clippings after a trim.
Thanks everyone. I did some research on the Flowbee and it had great results but nobody had actually tried it on Sheepdog hair. It does recommend only cutting it a 1/2" at a time. So you can just dive in and take 3inches off in one clean sweep. That's ok with me and the vac's ok with Foster. Still weighing my options at this point I guess.
Oscar's issue with the vacuum cleaner is that it MOVES! I don't think he appreciates the vibrations of the bristles either, as he can feel them through the floor. When he was a puppy, he would try to pounce on it.

Although, sadly, we no longer have any OES, we enjoyed living with three over a 30 year period. Two at the same time. We discovered and bought a Flowbee machine. It was wonderful!! No more hours (which seemed like days) of back-breaking grooming. And the machine paid for itself after just one use compared to the cost of a dog groomer. The dogs had no problem with being groomed or the noise. The manufacturer recommends cutting no more than 1/2 inch, but if you stay on top of it - say once a month, there's no problem.
Can anyone help me with how to choose clippers? There are so many out there. :lmt:

Thanks,

Jacqui
