Kaye Fletcher's Rescue Dogs

As many of you may or may not know, Kaye Fletcher's house burned to the ground a week ago Saturday. This leaves her with six babies that she is no longer capable of taking care of as she has no home, no yard, and no funding. These babies are adoptable and need a good home. Here is what they are:

Female bearded collie, approx 3 or 4 years old
Male Great Pyr/OES mix (beautiful dog), approx 2
Two Great Pyr Females (these dogs are sisters and it would be great if they could go together)
Daisy, female OES, two blue eyes (approx 4 or 5 years old)
And a little male Heeler (?) that was left in front of Kaye's gate in a shoebox when he was about 3 days old (White with black spots)(now about 3 months old)

If anyone knows of anyone looking to adopt, please contact me. Thank you so much!!

In an interview Kaye gave, she said she wasn't looking to adopt them out. Why has she changed her mind; is her situation that dire? Can we help at all? Of course she had a very tragic fire and lost everything, I guess what I mean is, does she have any family or friends she can turn to? Or is she left with just the clothes on her back and the dogs in the kennel?
She is basically left with the clothes on her back and the dogs in a kennel, yes. She does have friends, but they are older and in poor health. Fletcher is no help at all, obviously, as he is in a brain injury facility. There were five dogs that were not adoptable at all, older, ill health, that Kaye had refused to have put down, but that has changed, also. She finally realized the best thing she could do for the babies was adopt them out. She can't drag them along with her to a new place, when and if she finds one, closer to Fletcher. They need to have a furever home. I think it just took her a bit to think rationally. I can't imagine what all must be going through her mind. :(
I feel so horrible for her, and I don't know her but for this message board. She has so much emotional burden to bear with the loss of her house. But add the need to adopt out all the dogs that have been her support system while her husband has been hospitalized... I don't know if I could do it.
Such a heartbreaking story. I wish there was something I could do.

If anything becomes urgent with any of these dogs you can send any and all of them to me in Chicago and I will adopt them out through my rescue (and make sure they have wonderful foster homes in the mean time). I would take the Pyr/OES but we won't be ready for a third until we move in May.

Poor Kaye...this is all so tragic!
Is she able to keep any of the dogs?
Am I misunderstanding about the other 5?
I'm sorry, what do you mean misunderstanding?? She is willing to adopt them out now, if that is what you are asking. She didn't want to before because she felt a loyalty to keeping them alive and well, but her circumstances have changed now so that she feels she can no longer do good by them and they would be better off in a furever home. :) Is that what you are asking sweetie?? Let me know! Hugs -
Is she able to keep the other 5?
Thank you for all you are doing to
try to help!
I know this is a hard time for all but,
if anybody canget pictures I can get
them out to some of the rescues in TX.
I know Pyr rescue here has been swamped but,
I can check and see if they have any ideas.
:ghug:
Her camera and computer burned, so she has no way to get up pix, which is truly not good. The other five are "not" adoptable and will be put down today. It's actually way past time for them, which is sad to say, but they have serious health issues and their quality of life has been such for a long, long time that she really should have let them go a long time ago. :( Thank you, too ... appreciate you muches!
Just sent mass email to friends and family asking for supplies and donations! Where can I send??

Do you want me to see if I can find a volunteer in the area to go take pics of them... a lot of times there are shelter volunteers!
I'm glad you were able to log in, Laura. Thank you so very much for contacting me. :hearts:

I spoke with Kaye a little while ago... it's the first time in a few years. I just wanted to share a little more of what's happened...

The fire took everything that was in the house and according to the fire chief/police, the fire patterns suggest arson. Things were also missing... a chain had been cut and guns are gone. She had people on the property looking at old farming equipment she was selling before the fire. Maybe someone got a look at things. :( Two old dogs with cancer were unable to escape the fire... the others got out through a pet door. Definitely a reason to have a pet door. :|

The video we saw was a follow up to a prior one prior. Because of at least one earlier news story and the way it was edited, local people and people from other states suddenly started calling wanting to adopt her dogs. The video we saw was to let people know that these were her dogs and not dogs that had been taken away from her. One thing she still had was her dogs.

But she said she took some time by herself early this AM and thought things through, wrote things out to help her figure out what would be best. She wants people to know that it's kindest to rehome these dogs. Kaye didn't often take the easy ones or the pretty ones... some were dogs that no one else wanted or had been used up. But some of them are adoptable. She will be keeping Tinkie, an old OES, that is her one remaining personal dog from years ago. A friend is coming out today with Sabe, another of her personal dogs from years ago, to see if Daisy might be a match for him. I'm not sure how long Kaye has had Daisy. She had been grossly abused... a cattle prod to her genitals... so she's a traumatized girl that needs a very patient, undemanding and kind home. Hoping Daisy will accept him.

So Kaye's been dealing with the authorities, planning for her dogs, and where she could stay... basically, where to begin again. When the neighbor called about the fire (I remember her as the goat lady that would provide goat's milk for puppies), Fletcher was in the truck and Kaye let it slip due to the shock that the house burned down... she never would have told him otherwise. He doesn't process information the same as you and I due to a horrible beating that almost killed him when he was a prison guard. He needed to know about his trees... if they also burned in the fire. (Fletcher recently got to see Tinkie for the first time in 3 years :)) She was also dealing with the loss of the two ol' dogs, her home which allowed her to keep these dogs, and possessions. I think she just needed time to figure out what to do... it just hadn't sunk in that she could no longer provide a refuge for her furry babies. So some things may continue to change as she decides on her future. On top of this, she also has her own heath issues.

She's not a person who can easily ask for help. There is one thing she mentioned would help Fletcher...
Fletcher has old cards/pictures on the wall at the facility/hospital where he lives. They're with sheepdogs he's known or just sheepdogs in general. This holiday season, if you have an OES card left over, could you send it to him? I remember him holding Kaytee as a pup. He loved those dogs. He got to see Tinkie the other day for the first time in 3 years... she remembered him. :*) I'll get the address from Kaye and post it just in case anyone can extend this kindness.

My favorite picture of Fletcher & Kaytee-
(No, they aren't for adoption... Kaytee is my baby and Bear was rehomed long ago.)

Since it looks like Kaye will be keeping only one, possibly two dogs (Daisy), I don't think she'll be needing as much in grooming supplies but I might be wrong. A friend is going to try to get the address for the bank and how to donate. Laura, if I didn't get any of this quite right, please correct it for me...
This is very heartbreaking. What part of Texas is this? I live in Texas but as you know its a big state so not sure how far away. My heart goes to her and her husband. I have a brother in law with a major brain injury and know how hard it can be. God bless them both and their fur babies.

Kaye's home was in Clyde, Texas.
I have some addresses this morning for donations/cards. You can send donations of any kind to Kaye in c/o T.L.'s Critters, 822 FM 2700, Clyde, Texas 79510. T.L.'s phone number is 325-627-6101. To send Fletcher a card, it is Rupert Fletcher, Brinlee Creek Ranch, 3325 Pate Way, Anna, Texas, 75409.

Thanks to all who have or are donating, and thanks for the general well wishes. It is most appreciated and is being passed on daily to Kaye. Hugs!
I'll repost Fletcher's address on the Christmas Card Extra Addresses thread, if no one minds.
I think that would be wonderful! Thank you so much!!

This is so sad and I'm heartbroken for Kaye. For those that don't know her through this forum - this is a lady that deserves a break after all she's done for unwanted animals over the years.

If someone is in direct contact with her please give her a hug from me and that my thoughts are with her. I wish I could say more to offer comfort to this wonderful lady.

Count on me to send in a check to help out.

Kaye, Approximately 10 years ago, I had the pleasure of obtaining two sheepdogs from Kaye (Elvis and Mazie). Working with Kaye, from flying the dogs to Massachusetts, and always being there (no matter what time of the day !) to answer and give advice on questions I might of had, Kaye was always an uplifting kind of person (and I will never forget that).
Unfortunately, 5 years ago I lost Elvis to (IMHA), and also lost Mazie shortly after Elvis pasted away.
I have lost contact with Kaye for the past 5 years and did not know what had happened or did she just get out of the sheepdog business, until I just found this forum. Hopefully she will get this message that she is in my thoughts, and prayers.

Hello,
I just stopped by here only to read about Kaye & Fletcher. My Husband and I have been trying to contact Kaye for a few years now just to keep in touch. We adopted the boy in the lower left of the posted picture. Also, Kaye gave us one of the "miracle" babies "Gracie Kaye". Both are fine and loved.

I am heartbroken for Kaye and just want to make sure the contacts posted here to send her money are still good? I want to help and thats the first thing I can think of.

Any updates on her finding a place to live and any babies still needing a home?

Kaye had some wonderful friends here...I am so grateful you are all helping :)
Thank you all,

Nancy & Joe
