Bella just ate a whole roll of toilet paper

I am at my wits end with this dog. Everyone closes the bathroom door now, but my daughter's friend is here and grabbed a roll of TP for her runny nose. They are all sleeping on the couch and the TP was on a chair. My early morning thought process didn't register the danger until after the fact.

I have been forbidden, and have no credit left anyway, to spend more on emergency treatment on Bella. I love her, but I don't know how much longer she can survive with her stupid eating of inappropriate items. She eats every piece of paper she can get a hold of. Paper towels are always in her poop. I guess just pray this passes or it may be the last time she goes to the vet.

Any suggestions on how to prevent a blockage now??? Cooking oil perhaps?

Oh Wendy, I'm so sorry you are going thru this, and Bella too. I pray she doesn't need medical intervention. I have no suggestions but I'm certain someone here will know what to do. Keep us posted please.
If we are luck it will just be days of toilet paper poop like the last time she ate 1/2 roll. Nothing desperate yet...just frustrated.
I'd call the vet for professional advice on what to do.
The vet may be able to tell you over the phone what
to do and what not to do... what to watch for in case
of an obstruction. High fat can cause pancreatitis...
ask the vet about cooking oil before using it.

Hoping things will pass quickly with no problems. :hearts:
toilet paper is exceptionally water absorbtive, so I'd be getting water into her any way possible so the bowels wouldn't have to go without. Dinner could be wet too, soup for dinner? Fiber rich and water rich foods.....like pumpkin, maybe a dab of Metamucil in something yummy to drink. The idea is to keep her bowels wet. I suspect a pass thru the acidic tummy juices will take care of a lot of it.
The vet might suggest mineral oil. Just don't use too much at a time or too often. or you'll really have a runny mess. Hope she passes the paper with no problem.
I didn't realize toilet paper was such a risk to eat. My dogs were eating the toilet paper and now we took it of the wall holder and put it up high where they can't reach. Never an entire roll, just a few pieces. Is it that dangerous? Isn't paper biodegradable and doesn't paper dissolve?
A little bit of TP won't hurt them. If a little was her goal it would be no problem. She has eaten 1/2 a roll before and passed it. So far she is still pooping. I expect to see solid white TP poops tomorrow. She is drinking plenty of water and getting her fish oil. I always put water and pumpkin in her food too.

I just can't understand her behavior. I have never had one with this type of eating disorder before. There are usually paper towels in her digestive tract too. UGH!
Wendy,
I hope everything passes through by morning. The worrying & waiting is terrible.
keep us posted,
peg
oh no; I just read this! I'm SO sorry I didn't ask you how Bella is faring when we talked earlier! Fingers crossed she does just fine!
Since she has done this repeatedly I am not too worried. I just think she has a wish to use up all our cash. So far she seems her normal obnoxious self, and she ate it this morning. Time for another potty trip.
There are times I find a white poop in the yard...never wonder who it belongs to...I know. Don't know what he ate, probably a napkin as he loves them.

A few months ago I called two friends, frantic because Gar ate a whole napkin holder full of napkins. That had to be like twenty to thirty napkins.

Watch for signs of distress. Watch for white poops. Sorry for you, but I've been there, done that. It all comes out in the end.
I am there all the time. For Bella it's actually odd for her not to have paper in her poop. "sigh"
How old is Bella? Is this something she may out grow? Maybe a training class might help. When my lab was a puppy we took her to a class and they taught us to say "leave it" anytime something fell on the floor or if we saw her going to chew up something. 9 years later it still works. Now Ryleigh, my OES is starting to learn it. But she too likes to eat paper. My kids used to leave their back packs on the floor but after finding their binders everywhere they learned to keep them up high. Lets just say a few times they really could tell the teacher "my dog ate my homework".

Good luck to you and Bella.
She knows leave it. I yell it at her every morning so she won't eat poop before I pick it up. She is 6...not a puppy anymore. Just a big idiot. Mommy still loves her though.

I too was thinking liquid diet. I think it should dissolve in her system if she has enough water. :plead:
She is still going and I am beginning to see the tp poopies. Grrr...stupid dog.
Whew, I'm so glad she is T-P ing the yard. I'm sorry for your frustration with Bella, it has to be rough. At least this outcome was good.
Trust me, from past experience the Tp poopies will be for the next 2 days.
and there will come a day when we'll even miss a tp poop, hopefully with a smile. 8)
Keep us posted on her passing the toilet paper progress.

I had one of those paper eating dogs - though she had a penchant for cardboard and "creme filled" kleenex.
How is Bella doing this morning?
Still pooping tp...but looks like the end of it.
