Anyone own the Kindle DX? Reviews?

I am asking for the Kindle DX Reader for Christmas. It has been on my wish list for two years now, and I am finally ready to ask Santa to drop it down my chimney. I have waited until I researched, and others shared how they like their devices, after using them for awhile.

So-- I have asked people at work, and friends... more pros than cons, but still curious if anyone here has one?

Reviews?

Nope - I don't know anyone who has one.
In fact the only e-reader owning person I know is daughter LeAnne. She has the Nook from Barnes and Noble, and she really likes it.
I don't know anyone. Several people have iPads which they use for reading. Far more expensive. DX is bigger which for me is not what I want. If she is reading textbooks, newspapers, illustrations, the bigger size and rotation screen would be great.
I have a friend who has one and loves it. She travels a lot and likes the simplicity. Can't give you personal experience--hope Santa is good and brings you one! :D
What is it about the DX that you like? The size itself? James and I both regular Kindles. Mine is the last generation and his is out the new batch from this year. I continue to love mine and James never puts his down. I love that we're bringing far fewer books home. Unfortunately, as a creative/graphic design/visual communication person, some things I still need to see in real books. For those, I'm trying to use the library!
I :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: mine!!!
I travel........i would always take an extra bag with me to get thru the diff. airports as i was always wandering the stores on layovers and would arrive at destinations with 5-6 new big books. NOW I jsut type in the name and download them.

No you don't get the 'new book smell' or 'feel them in your hands" type of thing, but then again i don't haave any more ROOM in my house for books as i have more than enough. In fact i need to take about 3 boxes to the library soon.
Those things dont mean a thing to me.......it is something to read and then that's it. If it is something that i 'really really really' like and want a hard copy of THEN i can go buy it and try to find someplace to keep it!

But i say GO FOR IT!!!! In factt, it is now time to go and read for an hour or so!!
I love my new Kindle, birthday gift surprise. I'd never entertained the idea, being a traditional reader. I've embraced the new technology with gusto. Its not a DX but the wireless plus 3G, and I wouldn't be without it. I'm on a trip now, and so much easier than lugging around enough reading material. I believe it's a great choice.
Something to consider about the Kindle. It does not support the EPub format. Most public libraries use the EPub format for their on-line lending collections.

I have a Sony e-reader and have not purchased a book for it in over a year and a half. My public library almost immediately has all of the best sellers available and a huge collection of e-books. I also love the convenience (the on-line library is never closed!) of being able to borrow a book whenever I want to. I am never wanting for something to read. It also saves me a fortune in buying books.

I have had my Sony E-reader five years now and love it. I find it easier on my eyes than a regular book and I love that it is small and portable. The battery is good for almost three weeks and I read everyday for several hours. I am totally converted.

Ditto Ali and Butters. Don't have the DX just the standard screen with 3G. :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
Its on my Santa list too!

You've seen my place? I have boxes and boxes to take the library and still at least 120 linear feet of shelves in this room alone stuffed with books. Hubby isn't quite that bad as we've been whittling down his collection too. Daily I trip over sacks of books, waiting for Library Time.

That's why I love my Kindle, I don't have falling books or dusty books.

Down side is I don't have books to share with my friends.
I bought my husband the Kindle last Christmas. He loves it. He travels a lot, and it goes along on every trip. There are a lot of free books available and purchasing books, magazines, etc is easy. I have used it a few times, and I am not very tech savvy. He has a skin on the Kindle, and I did have a hard time figuring out where the buttons were under the skin. Once I did, it was great.
I hope Santa brings you one, and you enjoy it!
There are a few things that have drawn me to the DX, although the other versions are not out of the question. I am a bit concerned about the size and weight of the DX, however, I think the bigger screen is more "book like" and there are times that my MS flares, and my eye sight falters.

The following features appeal to me:

The larger screen is a definite plus.

The screen seems sharper and crisper than the Kindle 2 in a side-by-side comparison: the text is darker, and the contrast is much better, making for better visibility overall.

The PDF reader seems extremely convenient.

I have dropped hints, now let's see if Santa catches on. If not, it will be one of my first purchases of 2011...
