I heard this could be done, but since I have no talent or knowledge of knitting, I haven't tried it. Although it could be a good way to make sweaters for the chihuahua. |
I recall this coming up a couple of times before, so I did a search for "OES yarn" and "spun yarn" so I could find this post to share: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=18064&hilit=spun+yarn I've always thought that was just amazing. There are a few other links you might be interested in this post also: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=6065&p=64020&hilit=yarn#p64020 |
No never spun it into yarn but know a few people that have, everything from socks to vests made out of the yarn. A few years back the OES club here collected the undercoat from various sheepies and a lady spun it into yarn and from that a Teddy was knitted to auction of to raise funds. The end result is so soft and cuddly. (I didnt win it at auction DARN IT) A committee member here snuggling the Sheepie hair teddy. |
Here are two of my OES-hair clothed bears that were sold as a rescue fundraiser at Sheepiepalooza. I spun and knit these two for this year's OESCA Nationals. They benefitted the Top Twenty and OESCA Rescue. I thought it was expensive having the hair spun into yarn but not nearly as costly as buying a nice wheel and accessories. |
The teddy bears are beautiful, obviously lots of love & skills went into making them. I know in my area there is a group of ladies who will take your pet hair, spin and knit an animal of your choice for $100.00. Seems like a lot of money for a stuffy, but so much work goes into creating a wonderful piece of art. In hindsight I wish I had saved my Golden Retriever Holly's fur, it would have been a nice memento to have... rather than a cold rock of ashes. Makes me want to learn how to knit. peg |
