....we are getting our 1st storm of the winter season. Chewie just came in with snow dusting on his hair, so it's officially made the switch from rain to snow. Forecasted as 2-3 inches by 4am, with 4-6" coming tomorrow. I was hoping to beat it, as I have to leave for work at 6:30am...guess I better get the boots out! |
|
Forecast is for a very dry winter here......snow will be rare. Guess why this is a desert. Just wish temps would be mild too, but no, we still get cold. Chewie is happy no matter what: wheels on the cart or runners, as long as he gets to run. |
I didn't think you were allowed to use four letter word on ths forum. (snow) I hope you enjoy it! |
I didn't beat the snow - I'm home today. Power is going off and luckily comes back on. Tons of the wet heavy snow. LOTS of cars in the ditch. Lisa just called, they were in the ditch for over an hour waiting for a tow (and that was with the "family connection" - SIL's sister/husband own the towing company!). Trees and power lines going down. Lisa was freaking, as trees were falling near them stuck in the ditch. Also Lisa said that the 4 lane is closed westbound about 4 miles from our house as a vehicle went over the overpass for the RR tracks (Lisa and Alex were over at his parent's overnight, and were driving in a 4WD to try and get home when they went in the ditch...luckily Norah spent the night here, so she wasn't in the jeep!) We have power at the moment , but did switch the corn stove to the generator. Power was off so many times and it kept shutting down.... Pictures coming...provided we keep power. It is really pretty! and warm - 33 degrees |
While I am not jealous of power outages and cars in ditches, I am jealous of the snow. The weather here in Ottawa is freakishly warm. I can't wait for snow! I have said this before, but Dawn, I think David, Mady and I are moving in with you!! |
Fast approval! so here are some pictures: About 8 this morning, potty stop: And out the front door: and about an hour ago - compare the snow on the table : and a few more pictures - And an update - Lisa and Alex are stuck AGAIN - just a half mile from their house. They are renting a place in the country just 3 miles from us. So, Todd has taken off with his big bad Dodge (his 4WD big pickup) to either pull them out or bring them to their house. Their poor pups have been crated since last night. Norah is here with me - napping! |
It is beautiful Dawn but so far we're still getting rain and I am not ready for what you got. Your kids are really having a terrible time of it but at least they have family close by. |
You are so lucky ! - Love the pics ! Here it's just cold!!!! It goes down to 17.6° farenheit ! BUT NO SNOW Looks like you have enough of snow! Please send me some ! Enjoy your snow |
Ya know what Dawn? You can keep it. We were 67 today and sunny and it was great day to have Brick at the park. That's what I'll take in November. But what's nice (at least for CNY) is that we'll be on the warm side of that system when it goes thru our area. So just rain. Thank God. |

Yeah, we had that super nice 70 degree stuff for 3 days last week....knew it was going to end, but not with this much of a bang! PS - added a few more pictures under .....pictures! |
Roads must be awful to have them go off the road twice!! Slow down, slow down. Cloudless, clear blue here, 52 degrees. Just spend a couple of hours at the Met HD broadcast with high school kids! They loved the opera. Strange, 75 HS kids and several hundred grey and white hairs. |
SheepieBoss wrote: Roads must be awful to have them go off the road twice!! Slow down, slow down. They were slow - Lisa is a paranoid driver The problem was about 8 inches of super wet snow on top of about 3-4 inches of slush from the rain that came 1st, then a skinny gravel road that isn't frozen so turned to paste.... oh - and no snow plow... 8 inches is tough to drive in any time, but with a semi frozen base and muddy roadway....impossible. (glad I don't face that anymore!) The fact trees are falling is also a sign just how yucky things are. Hope the generator has plenty of fuel. |

I was quite surprised actually, Todd isn't known for planning ahead... Like the fact that he left the tractor parked too far away for a power cord to reach it if it needed a charge with the charger. And on a slope... away from the yard in all this slimey snow. But he lucked out, it started and got up into the yard! |
Where did it snow in NC? (Besides my bathroom ) I love your pics but, as I said BRRRRR......... |
Beautiful I love love love the snow. So does Frankie. Believe it or not I don't even mind driving in it. We arrived in Flordia today. No snow here Have fun guys Lisa and Frankie |

Yeah, a lot of people are concerned about the other side of a warm up in late fall. So much so that the weather guy on a local TV channel addressed the concern. A lot of people have been e-mailing him asking when the other shoe is gonna drop. But he's telling us that there won't be an abrupt change. We'll slide back to about normal and then ease in to a bit colder weather by Thanksgiving. Of course that's so far out that anything can happen. I would just like the heavy stuff to hold off to just before Christmas. A dusting here, an inch there. I can deal with that. I don't want to shovel. I was lucky, though, today. Got Brick to the dog park, got the lawn raked and mowed for the last time (cut it at the lowest height setting), washed the mower off, and cleaned up the Colorado for winter storage. I'll put it away tomorrow next to the Solstice that I put away about a week ago. Today would of been a great day for a ride with the top down. Tomorrow I'll put the truck away, put the grille, hose, & lawn furniture in the garage, and roll up the carpet in the garage so my mother can park her car in there for the winter. I also have to wash my winter work coats. Good weekend. Looks like I'm ready for what you got today (not mentally, however). |
Mark, I'm with you! We are in NY as well - downstate on Long Island. The weather has been freakishly warm and beautiful - for November. Not a cloud in the sky and about 65 degrees. Wierd! We also tkk advantage and put all the summer things away, disconnected garden hoses, cleaned gutters, etc. I usually do all this in late September but it stayed so nice, we were still doing things outside! Tonight we are even barbequing! Dawn, your snow looks pretty. Sort of, nice place to visit, but wouldn't want to live there Stay safe and warm and out of those ditches! |
Dawn--love the pictures!! Aside from the power outages and people being stuck in ditches--the snow is beautiful!! I would LOVE to have 8 inches here in Music City--sigh --not going to happen before Christmas I don't think! I think I need to move north for the winter! |
