Does the breeder have a web site so we can see what they are offering? There are some questionable breeders in that area. |
If a breeder doesn't show their dogs, then there's no real way to determine the quality of the dogs. Showing, I learned while being here on OES.org. is so much more than just having people tell you that your dog is great! Its how the industry establishes breed standards, and how reputable breeders can assure potential buyers that their dogs meet that standard. Without an impartial judge looking at your dog, how can you know if that dog, and subsequently the litters it produces, are meeting our breeds standards? and don't forget that included in that standard is your dog's temperment! That bit is SO important. My guys are back yard breeder dogs, and I've been dealing with temperment issues since we got them. They are lovely dogs, but I do SO MUCH training, just to keep them "okay". And that all translates to a lot of money and time. |
There is a website. It's http://www.riverbin.org. Thanks! |
If you do a search for Riverbin on the forum, you'll find some results to look through. |
Lately there are quite a afew Reputible Breeders that are out there that do not show anymore. This is due to health issues or family issues. I can think of 5 just off of the top of my head. This doesn't mean they are backyard breeders. They follow the OESCA or CKC Code of Ethics......... doing all of the health testing required, and by having other breeders come in and evaluate puppys and breeding stock.......... I think as most breeders are getting older, and have health issues denying them the ability to get back into the ring, and the fact of no newbies are coming into the 'business' as we say, you are going to be finding more and more retired breeders with pups for sale. Yes there will be backyard breeders and puppymill breeders out there always......... it will be up to the puppy buyer to know and do their work and have questions. You will also be seeing more and different advertising re: websites on the internet. A nmber of 'us' old tymer breeders have finally had enough of being told, who what where we will be dictated to as to where we may post we have puppies. This isn't the time of 15 years agow when thr internet first started. And it is going to be happening. All we ask is that you the potential puppy buyer, know your questions and do your homework. You should be smart enough to weed out the true honest breeders from the puppymill people. I won't deny that there are 'others' in the breed that don't want to see any dogs sold from websites, or other sites, but this is 2011 and it is going to go on, and in fact get more and more into different magazines and websites. I personally remember when advertising in Dog Fancy was done by the top kennels. |
My Bogey is from Riverbin. He is very healthy and sweet! Wonderful dogs! We have kept in touch with other people who have pups from his litter, as well as, people who have adopted pups from litters in the past, and all are healthy and happy. Yes she does not show and breeds cats. But she does know her stuff. I would not hesitate to get a pup from her. |
