new food sensitiviy?

My poor Simon....he has had dire rear for the past couple weeks. Each time, I take him off his food and cook him turkey and rice and it goes away. Then, I slowly start introducing his food again, seems all good until I get to the point where I give him his kibble totally again...then it starts again.

I rotate their foods and this time they are on Canidae Beef and Ocean Fish. I have fed this before with no problems, but every time I transition him back to this, he gets the horrible loose stools again. I've come to the conclusion that this food is causing his distress. I am going to get a different food, and will cook him a bland diet for a few more days. But, I am curious, has anyone had a dog suddenly develop a sensitivity to a food they have done well with in the past?

I feel so badly for Mr Simon. He's my rescue and he has never learned to let me know he needs to to out. He is fine when on a schedule but these last few weeks we have had way too many accidents in the house. I think he knows the accidents aren't welcome but he doesn't seem to be able to help it. Simon is my forever work in progress.

compromized immune systems tend to result in food sensitive dogs. You may find yourself actually making his meals and not taking it from a bag or can. Have you tried introducing probiotics? Just a little at a time?

To determine the culprit is a long, slow process. Adding one type of food per week to the original mix......assuming that keeps him firm.
Poor Simon. (Poor you and your carpets.)

Sounds like the food rotation may be a problem for Simon. From my understanding, dogs, like humans, can develop a sensitivity (or allergy) to anything at any time in their lives. My sister developed cat allergies at 30 years old, and my dad developed a dust allergy at 50.

As you might have seen on the forum, Oscar has immune mediated disease which leaves him prone to Inflammatory Bowel Disease flare-ups, as well as pancreatitis. Since he came to us at 10 weeks old, we have dealt with diarrhea, vomiting, and a host of tummy gurgles. On our journey, we discovered that Oscar cannot tolerate beef, bison, fish, chicken, lamb, soy, wheat or corn.

So I speak from experience when I say, personally, I would stop rotating Simon's food, and keep him on something he does well on. Or, if you want to keep rotating, leave the beef/fish combo out of the rotation for him.

Hope he is feeling better soon.
