I would look for a physical cause first. Normally a startle from being asleep would make me question her ability to hear. She ccould be unilaterally deaf and sleeping on her good ear and that would have pretty much the same effect as being completely deaf. Only a BAER test would tell you for sure. Especially if it's unilateral. Since it's only in evenings, however, and if it was a more recent onset, I wonder: does she play all day and then maybe get ouchy by nightfall? That would make me wonder about her hips. If neither of those, is the scene perhaps very different in the evening, people-wise? Who or what is she sleeping by...? Possible resource guarding? Just some thoughts. Hard to say. How long has she been doing this? Kristine |
Thank you! Those are some great thoughts. We will check it out. She has been doing it for quite sometime. It started out under the table when she would sleep under it. All of our feet would be under and she would startle and snap. Then it was just out in the open. Last night she was laying by my husband who she is very attached to so the resource guarding is a possibility. Hmmm....I will watch her more and bring it up to the vet. |
