Cathy & I went to the dog shows this weekend. Saturday I went WD dog for 2 points, Best of Winners, Best Puppy in the breed judging & got a Puppy Herding Group 1 with Herbie (aka Ken-Bear's Herbie the Love Bug)! He's 3 points away from finishing his AKC Championship & is 11 months old. Sunday Cathy went WD for a 3 point major & Best of Winners with Murdoch He needed his 2 majors to finish so he is almost there! I was SO happy when he won today! And I bet his owner (list member Holly Chase ) is too! Now on to practicing obedience with José. We have an obedience trial coming up next weekend. I doubt we'll have as good of news as this weekend but I gotta keep at it. |

We have great hopes for Jose. Some day his brain will kick in. |
Congrats! Sounds like an award filled weekend. Good luck next week! |
Very nice - and great to have a big enough entry for majors as well Hey, good luck with Jose this weekend. I have Chewie entered too...and I'm not holding my breath! He loves all these other sports, but plain old obedience competition doesn't do it for him. Odd, as he is a pretty gung-ho dog for everything else, a good worker and quite open to most anything. Oh well, we'll plug away, eventualy get the CD and move on to fun (in his book) again! |
Yayyyyyyy, Murdoch! He's almost there! |
Great news, congrats! |
Dawn: I have found with José that I could show him in Rally Novice at all breed shows but he really did better at a plain obedience trial where there was nothing but obedience or rally going on. So I made a decision right then & there that once we were into any level of rally or obedience that required anything off lead, to only show him at obedience/rally trials that are stand alone shows or where the obedience & rally are in a totally seperate building. The tension & noise in the air just stressed him too much at all breed shows that were all in 1 building. Too hard to keep his attnetion on me. He was concerned where all the nosie was coming from & was it going to hurt me! You have to admit that the people at stand alone perfpormance trial are quite a bit more polite about noise than at all breed shows. They know what it's like to try to keep a dog's attention |

They know what it's like to try to keep a dog's attention That really isn't Chewie's issue for showing...but something similar was when he was younger. I learned I shouldn't enter both conformation and rally if I wanted any sort of good (placing) score in rally! Getting to know each dog's quirks is part of the learning curve for us humans! This show is just rally and obedience.....but I doubt it will improve his enthusiasm. BIG peptalk coming , lots of tugging before we go in for heeling, etc. I hope that will coast us through it |
Great weekend WELL DONE to all |
