Oh! That sounds like fun! Do we need to have any previous experience to attend? Ecco would LOVE to chase some sheep.
it says that even those not exposed to sheep before can participate. I have never been to a clinic before and don't know what to expect. I am thinking about going since it is close by.
This was the info that was posted about it on the WNY herding yahoo site. I don't know anything about the trainer and have been working with one of the judges who was at nationals for the herding trials. I know Chewie's mom does herding so I was hoping that those of you guys who do this will give some input. Is it better to stay with who you train with or get different input from other???? maybe it is just better to go and watch since we are just starting out???? are these kind of things more worthwhile when you can actually do some of the moves we saw at nationals ie go through gate, go to a pen

Kelly Malone Clinic

November 20 & 21

This clinic is for all levels even the "never been on stock" before team !

Come immerse yourself for two days of herding with a great instructor.

$120 for both days or $60 per day - per dog

Kelly Malone will only be taking a limited number of teams. They fill up quickly. Kelly has a great way with explaining concepts and ideas to students.

Kelly Malone, the owner of Karma Performance, has been herding for 15 years. She earned her AHBA judge's license in 2005. She is the breeder, owner, and handler of multiple herding High In Trial German Shepherd Dogs, including 5x HIT HV Reva, and 7x HIT HV Drummer.

The emphasis in all activities is calm, efficient, practical shepherding. Handlers are given thorough grounding on how to help their dogs learn their job of controlling themselves and livestock. Handlers are helped to learn how to read and understand livestock to help them in day to day sheep herding and trialing.

Karma Performance turns out students that are accomplished, professional, and successful. Multiple students have taken their dogs out onto the trial fields, and won titles, placements, and Multiple HIT's.

Limited working spots. Sign up now!

WORKING SPOTS MUST BE PAID FOR IN ADVANCE - BY NOVEMBER 12!
Refunds - only if spot can be filled.
This sounds lik fun and is actualy my birthay weekend! Can anyone tell me where Eden NY is? I am dwnstate on ong Island. And does anyone know if there is a dog friendly hotel nearby???
Just some thoughts... :D

I don't know the person, but the description sounds promising.
Best would be if you could actually talk with someone who has gone to her (the trainer/presenter) and get more feedback.

To me, the fact that she's not a dedicated border collie person is a plus
Odds are if she's a GSD person, she may have more exposure to the non-BC, more "upright" herding style dogs.

I personally don't mind going to different people for training/advice within the same sport. Different perspectives and outlooks and methods can reveal a golden nugget of learning that you may be missing! I've had some of my best :bulb: :bulb: moments of learning from someone I go to besides my usual instructor. :D

Keep your own dog in mind, and take advice with a grain of salt.
- I've had some people give me well meaning advice that I KNOW won't work or be in my individual dog's best interest. And my different dogs are all unique within our family. I don't train Chewie like Simon, Simon like Riley, Riley like Biscuit...and so on!
When I go to seminars or clinics, I try to go with an open mind, always gleaning the info presented for something I may have overlooked or never thought of.

And you never know, you may find someone who is the perfect match for you and your dog.
I had Ollie, my 1st OES at an instinct test years ago. My 1st one, and after I had got off working a night shift at the hospital, drove home for Ollie and drove to the test site.
A group of us who do other dog training (obedience, conformation, all with different breeds) were there, and totally loved the tester's style. We approached him after the trial and asked him if he would be interested in coming to my farm and giving weekly classes for us - and it worked! Sadly, he has since moved to another state...but I drove to the test site 2.5 hours from my home for Chewie's 1st HCT leg test, just for the chance to see him again and have him meet Chewie. :D
