I've almost always given my sheepdogs common human nicknames and renamed the rescues as well. When they are being bad or stubbornly disobedient, which is pretty often, their nickname becomes the more formal human version even though it is not their name at all. Good Charlie becomes bad Charles, Randy becomes Randolph, Freddie/Frederick, Toby/Tobias, Monty/Montgomery. The only one I can remember getting called some goofy name is my current idiot, Toby. And that's only when he gets up on the couch with my wife and flops on his back with his head on her lap and one front leg held stiffly up in the air so he can get his belly rubbed. If his ploy is successful, he cranes his neck back as far as it will go, waives his leg in the air and licks her under her chin. At those times and only those times, Toby becomes "love-muffin". |
Sammy was Mama-Girl because she mothered the kids and they called her Mama. I will never forget how she waited for the "boys" to come home from university last summer. She crossed over the Bridge a week later so unexpectedly. I really believe she held on so she could see her boys one last time. So yeah, we called her Mama. |

when i see gasper in all his awesomeness i believe he is 25% dog 25% monster as he tries to lick two year olds faces and unintentionally makes them cry 25% sheep because of his wool 25% bear because even now no matter if he is 7 years old he still does that funny sound puppies do when he is happy or when he is chewing my brothers wallet so i call him monster, sheep, or bear depending of whatever he is doing |

I always sing "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean" replacing Bonnie with Boney to her, and a few weeks back I jokingly started calling her by a slew of names to see if she'd respond to any, Bonnie amongst them. I guess Bonnie is close enough to Boney, and she actually responds with more curiosity and enthusiasm to that name so I've been randomly using it ever since. "HEY BONNIE, get me a beer. I'm watchin' the game." "Hhhuuwuuuuut?" There's plenty more, but these are the main ones I can remember right now. |
